And Tacoma, WA and Takoma Park, MD (in Montgomery County). Fortunately, we haven't had any of the sniper shootings here in Takoma Park (although the shooting of the Haitian Pascal Charlot was too close for comfort.)

Just got here, there are approx 800 comments and without reading every one I want to check this out: has the topic of the fact that Chief Moose's previous position was in Washington come up as a factor here yet? Perhaps someone has a vendetta against the Moose??? (apologize if this is an old speculation that has already been hashed over)

MSNBC saying older man and teenager, not father/son, Alabama
Was it Alabama? The local news just interviewed the mayor of Bellingham, WA (near the Canadian border) saying that the FBI is looking for a teenager and an older man, both possibily hispanic.
Same ones?

Older man is in his thirties. Younger man was a student at Bellingham high school.

Probably the two meth heads that attacked that 1st base coach a while back.

you, my friend, need to hear the story my old friend eugene kovacs told me about an event during his boyhood in romania:

"my father, he had vinyards and made the wine. but he did not drink the wine except for one night each year. and then the next day he would come down and oh, his head. and my mother, she would wag his finger at him! and he would say, "woman! *i* am one with moustache!"

The stump's going to get at least a book deal out of this. Maybe its own TV talk show.

Sinkspur's an okay guy. He's a resident liberal who enjoys busting up conservative Catholic threads, but I think he's sincere. Why he hangs out on FR, however, is beyond me.

Official says Mexico will expel some Islamic missionaries

Associated Press June 16, 2002, Sunday, BC cycle

MEXICO CITY
Some foreign missionaries working for an Islamic group in the southern state of Chiapas have been asked to leave Mexico because they lack proper residency documents, a Mexican immigration official said Sunday.

The missionaries - who include Basque converts to Islam from Spain - have converted a number of Chamula and Tzotzil Indians, but have never applied for status as a religious organization, said Javier Moctezuma Barragan, assistant secretary of the National Immigration Institute. Because their missionary group, Mision para el Dawa en Mexico, doesn't have legal status here, it has never asked for minister's visas for the men. The missionaries apparently entered Mexico on tourist visas that prohibit them from working here, even on a volunteer basis. Authorities began investigating the group, which is linked to the Morocco-based Murabitun World Movement, following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Moctezuma Barragan told the government news agency Notimex.

He did not say how many missionaries had been asked to leave.

However, the request that they leave the country - in the form of letters recently sent to them by the government - was apparently based only on the alleged violation of immigration laws, not terrorism concerns.

The Murabitun World Movement has a generally leftist slant and a strict interpretation of Islam. Some reports suggest its Mexican missionaries may have had links to both the Zapatista rebels in Chiapas and Basque separatists in Spain.

The missionaries were not immediately available to comment.

Fort Lewis near Tacoma is largely a training base ...
Yep, but it has its fair share of people trained at sniper school and living in the area. More or less than other army bases? Dunno.

MSNBC saying older man and teenager, not father/son, Alabama

I was watching that broadcast. I think they were speaking to the mayor of Bellingham, Washington. From what I gather, he said the younger one may have attended school there, because a search warrant was issued for one of the schools in the area. He guessed (wasn't sure) the older guy was in his 30's.

Older man/teenager, not related. The door is wide open for speculation on a gay component.

Bella stated Alabama incorrectly. The information was from Bellingham, Washington.
