So, what does this mean? Does Wellstone stay on the ballot, virtually guaranteeing a win for his Republican challenger? Does that mean that the Republicans take the Senate? Is the Governor of Wellstone's state a Republican? If so, does that mean that he can appoint the Republican candidate to the seat now?

Jesse "the body" Ventura is the Gov. He can appoint whomever he chooses to fill out the unexpired term. The Dems can place any name they deem fit on the ballot. IMHO Jesse is the biggest power broker on two feet right now.
