Here's the letter I sent to the editors of that rag:
amey_stone@businessweek.com
Roger_franklin@businessweek.com

This survey is badly biased. Many of the answers are illegal, other than by a Constitutional amendment.

Do you worry often about being attacked by someone with a gun? - Loaded question; I worry about being attacked in general whether a weapon is used or not. Rusty hammer, bat, brick - is there something you would prefer to be attacked with?

The U.S. Constitution protects the right of citizens to bear arms, and firearms are widely available via every distribution method from mail order to discount stores. Do you think the availablity of guns in America is: - The first three options are illegal, the forth (don't know) is not since stupidity is not illegal yet. The correct answer is implied in the question - infringements on the peoples inalienable right to keep and bear arms are prohibited by the Second Amendment. The real answer is: Deplorable? - Repeal all illegal infringements of the right to keep and bear arms.

Do you think that it would make sense for anyone who buys a gun to have to register it at regular intervals, similar to the existing state-based system for registering motor vehicles? - A yes answer advocates a Constitutional crime.

Do you think that it would make sense to license gun owners at regular intervals, just as car owners must renew their state operating licenses every two or three years? - A yes answer advocates a crime against the Constitution.

Do you think it would make sense to have "ballistic fingerprinting," in which records would be kept of the distinguishing marks a gun leaves on bullet casings in hopes of more easily tying a criminal to a crime? - A yes is Unconstitutional!

Which do you think is the best way to cut down on crimes involving guns? - The correct answer is missing: More people carrying guns equals less crime. This is why criminals are reluctant to commit crimes when a police officer is watching. It's not the badge that deters them, it's the gun!

Why don't you outlaws just try obeying the law for a change?

"A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." - Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

Molon Labe!

Why doesn't this rag publish the data on Violent Crime, if they are so concerned?

The Bureau of Justice Statistics annually publishes a very voluminous set of data on all aspects of crime, see http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/

The most current data is for FY2000:

Not sure is a weapon used = 7%
Total Non-firearm = 17.5%
Total FIREARM = 7.5%
NO WEAPON USED = 68%

Instead of persuing the politics of FEAR, DIVISION and HATRED, try doing some objective journalism and state what you or any of the other pimps of the election industry have done to help the 68% category!

Did anyone notice the one question which asks about MAIL ORDER guns. Plus, by giving an e-mail address, you identify yourself as a gun owner (registration)

There was a gut reaction against giving an email address to that type of poll.

I don't worry about being attacked by someone with a gun because I carry a gun and can most likely put holes through a violent assailant before he can touch me.

This poll is manipulative garbage.

That's okay.
They still got your ISP address, and they probably planted a cookie in your computer.
If you surf the web, anyone can track you down eventually.

Some obervations...

Do you:
Keep a gun for self defense
Own guns for hunting and sport shooting
Own a gun but never use it

Why only one choice? Both #1 and #2 or 3 could be true.

The U.S. Constitution protects the right of citizens to bear arms, and firearms are widely available via every distribution method from mail order to discount stores.

Mail order guns have been illegal since 1968 except to licensed dealers and antiques and muzzleloaders.

Firearms manufactured before 1899, and blackpowder replicas of firearms manufactured before 1899, may be purchased mail-order without restriction.

Just muzzle-loaders? I thought that blackpowder replicas of any pre-1899 designs were exempt; although most pre-1899 designs were muzzle-loaders, and those are the most popular types of blackpowder firearms, I would think replicas of the few breach-loaders of the time would also qualify (at least if the bore was 0.50" or smaller).

What I said was 'antiques and muzzleloaders'. Antiques are I believe anything made in 1898 or earlier. I have seen Chilean 1898 Mausers by mail order. Also any muzzleloader is exempt, but a modern replica of a black powder Henry rifle for example must be through an FFL. I'm not a lawyer, but that's my understanding.

I should have been more clear: from my understanding a replica must meet two requirements to be "not a firearm":

The issue of which type of propellant is used is not generally a distinguishing characteristic (though I must confess do being a little curious how the BATF would regard a replica of a pre-1898 firearm which was, back then, sufficiently over-engineered that the modern replica was strong enough to use modern smokeless rather than blackpowder or "imitation blackpowder" [pyrodex etc.]?)
