CRIME: Woman took concerns about gun order to 4 agencies.

Federal investigators and Bellingham Police Chief Randy Carroll remained tight-lipped Monday in the face of news reports about repeated warnings that law enforcement agencies received about John Allen Muhammad, the former Bellingham resident who now faces multiple murder charges in connection with sniper attacks in the Washington, D.C., area.

The author of this piece, John Stark, and his colleagues at the Bellingham paper are running circles around the "national" media. I e-mailed them an "attaboy" and thankyou.

Saber, please place me on your ping list.

... threats against police were not a federal matter. This is astonishing incompetence! If the pheebies get a report in which LEos are threatened, even generically, the pheebies sure as hell ought to pass the data on to the locals, asap. Had the incompetent pheebies done that, the locals might have done some sort of investigation and found Williams to be in violation re. a weapon bought while under a restraining order, thus the murders could well have been avoided! [I'm really starting to get p!ssed at the pheebies attitude and incompetence. I made a simple contact to them re. a ME character that appeared suspicious to me in my town, and now I'm doubting the report was even accepted and filed, much less ANY followup on the guy.]

What people don't realize is that, if the FBI actually were to solve a crime early in the game, it would mean less work to do, less valuable publicity and less in the way of funding than when the crime blossoms and takes on a life of its own. Working for the FBI is extremely lucrative - especially the pensions - and they will do anything to keep it that way. So you see, this is about money, isn't it?

Sounds like the makings of a new reality show. How many alerts are needed to tag a terrorist?

2-3, at least in Washington state for Muhammud and similar for Malvo.

Upwards of 10 stops in the DC area.

The more information that unfolds, the more unsettling the whole story becomes. It becomes difficult to delineate which is more Keystone---the cops or the killers. Neither exhibited the highest level of competence.

Yes, they are.

They should increase the FBI radar screen count to four, though, since the Oakland Tribune reported on 10/25, that Muhammad's neighbors in Pinole, CA, were questioned about him by FBI in 1992, when he was stationed at Fort Ord.

The fbi is so unbelievably incompetent it defies imagination.

Perhaps if they, federal prosecutors, and Washington politicians spent less time sucking up to islamics who won't even condemn 9-11, they might accidentally find an islamic terrorist BEFORE they bring down a building or engage in a sniping spree.

Nah, the marxist death grip of political correctness only allows them to focus on angry white male 'haters' who might engage in a 'hate crime', 'hate speech', or a 'hate thought' against islamic jihadists bent on destroying America.

The ONLY way we will save ourselves is to act on our own. Waiting for disinterested idiots of less than marginal ability is suicidal.

FBI HANDCUFFED (Janet Reno still thwarts the War on Terror)

New York Post ^ | October 27th, 2002 | HEATHER MAC DONALD
FBI HANDCUFFED By HEATHER MAC DONALD October 27, 2002 -- CIA director George Tenet warned recently that the threat from al Qaeda is as high as it was before 9/11. Unfortunately, there is another parallel to the pre-9/11 environment: Clinton-era guidelines that had paralyzed the county's intelligence agencies by 2001 - and still govern our anti-terrorism efforts. The Bush administration is fighting to revoke those guidelines in the most important anti-terror litigation since 9/11. The outcome of that case will determine whether the United States will have the intelligence capacity to defeat al Qaeda. Osama bin Laden couldn't have...

The federal prosecutors you mentioned, would those be the appointed federal prosecutors sinkEmperor placed in their jobs after he took office and fired the working federal prosecutors?

For several years now, we've been confronted with the question of just what do the public schools teach -- given that the students can't spell, can't read or write, don't know their history or their geography and long division seems an unknowable mystery.

Now, in the midst of a national security crisis, we find ourselves confronted with the question of what does federal law enforcement actually do? Does debriefing undercover militiamen, prosecuting Microsoft and preparing the paperwork to release illegal aliens on their own recognizance actually consume all their time?

Doubtless, all of this will be resolved by new gun laws...

Thanks, and BTW, looked at my tape of Geraldo from Sunday, and Rev Al Archer is the one who said Muhammad often traveled by air to New Orleans, Denver and Grand Caymans.

Quite interesting article from the Oakland news. Anyone care to guess how many more of this type of sniper teams are lurking around the country?

Muhammad and Malvo proved it only takes two to bring a whole region of the country to its knees, given the disorganization, political correctness and Clintonization of the FBI and the INS. Whether this dynamic duo was part of an organized effort, or doing a solo Jihad tour, they are still terrorists, and either way there's lots more where they came from, with more arriving daily, by land and by sea. And like Muhammad and Malvo, unless the laws are changed and/or enforced, and the FBI cleans up its act, they can all hide in plain sight.

Every elected official in Washington has blood on their hands, though I doubt any of them will lose sleep over it.

Now, in the midst of a national security crisis, we find ourselves confronted with the question of what does federal law enforcement actually do?

I'm not quite sure what they do, but whatever it is, they do it slowly:

September 23, 2002: FBI cyber chief heralds interagency cooperation

Ron Dick, the director of the FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center, said since last year's terrorist attacks, information sharing efforts by federal agencies and within the private sector has improved. He noted that the CIA has detailed a staff member to the NIPC and there is an interagency group, which includes the NIPC, Treasury, Justice and the Defense departments aimed at sharing investigative efforts.

"I have seen nothing but willingness of agencies to share information," he said.

October 23, 2002: FBI technology shortcomings hamper sniper investigation

The FBI’s antiquated technology systems don’t allow agents to share information among field offices or search FBI databases for complete criminal records. There is also no central means to manage case files. The Automated Case Support System that Rapid Start was built to circumvent was blamed for the loss of more than 4,000 documents in the trial of Timothy McVeigh for blowing up the Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

FBI agents in New York City deployed Rapid Start after the Sept. 11 attacks. As reports and leads came into the command post there, “Rapid Start became so overloaded that documents could not be retrieved,” Kessler wrote in his book. “This led to delays in pursuing information that required investigation.”

According to media reports Wednesday, FBI and local police officials in the Washington area are copying down leads by hand and then sorting them into separate piles by county and city.

Only in recent months has the FBI begun to make a serious effort to update its computer systems in a three-phase project known as Trilogy. The project is designed to replace the obsolete desktop computers agents use with newer models and create a new network to share information and better manage case files.

Agreed!

It's to bad not ALL 10 were FBI agents.

The FBI has just got to be the lamest excuse for federal money I have ever heard of.

Ashcroft asks citizens to be diligent and report any suspicious activities and we did and we get...

In twenty years we are going to learn that there were numerous warnings supplied to the FBI days, weeks and months prior to the Sept 11th attacks.

If I find something suspicious I am calling Drudge and the local news and NOT the FBI.
