A Matter of Faith: Islam is Fastest-Growing Religion in the U.S.

Abdullah Yusuf, center, prays at the Masjid As-Salam in Sacramento
on Friday. Yusuf says he was raised Catholic but converted to Islam
because he liked the teachings of the Qur'an.

Latino Muslims

In April, California State University, Sacramento, hosted a forum on the "Islamic Presence in Latin America" before and after Columbus. One of the speakers, Salvadoran-born AbdulHadi Bazurto (President of Latin American Muslim Unity), said the more he examined his roots, the more he questioned the validity of Catholicism in his life. "Since the day the Spanish arrived, we as people have suffered a lot," he said. "Christianity's 'white God' concept was harmful to our people, who were definitely not white."

Another speaker, Daniel Denton, a Stockton elementary school teacher who was born in Mexico, said he was a hard-drinking veteran of the Gulf War when he began to explore Islam in 1994. At the invitation of Muslims at Delta College, he went to a mosque. "There was a carpet on the floor, and the walls were bare. I wondered, 'Where is everything?' and then I realized that was everything. If you go to a Catholic church, every few feet they have an image or a statue, but in Islam, there is no association between God and any image."

Denton also was impressed by the Islamic belief that each individual will be judged by their deeds on Judgment Day. That night, he took the shahada, the Muslim vow that says "There is only one God, Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger."

When he started fasting for Ramadan, "I heard my relatives in Stockton were calling my mom in San Diego and telling her I had become a terrorist and was doing drugs," Denton said. "When I went down to San Diego toward the end of Ramadan, I had lost 15 pounds and was starting to grow my beard. My mom was just in tears for days."

But, Denton said, his mother soon realized that instead of partying, he was staying home and talking to her as he had never done before.

"As she began to see the change, she came to accept it, and now she's happy. There's a saying in Islam that goes, 'Heaven lies at the feet of the mother. You have to treat her well at all times, take care of her.' "

Denton, 29, sees similarities between Islamic and Latino culture. "I've noticed that if you take away the crosses, the alcohol and the pork, the smells in my house are similar to Muslim homes..."

The myth that a serial killer is bound to be white and Christian, is something white Christians really don't need right now.

The essence of Islam is hate. Those who follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad are terrorists. They are a danger to society. The only thing Islam and Christianity have in common is that both are called religion. But the similarity ends there.

The Koran is full of violence, hate and discrimination. If we fail to see and acknowledge its intolerance and its message of hate written all over the Koran then, we're blind deaf and dumb. Moreover, Jesus lived an exemplary life full of love and devoid of sin. Muhammad on the other hand was a violent, lustful, perverted, and ruthless, man. Emulating Muhammad in this day and age should warrant some jail time.

Did you see Fox last night? He registered his car on 9/11/02 at the time of the impact of the plane..that was intentional..the news and the "islam is love" folks are scared to death to admit this is related to Islam..so they cover it up..

I just read your post to my wife; it blew her away. I have to confess to having read about the time he registered the car, but to having failed to put 2 and 2 together. The articles or posts I read about his registration of the car suggested he called in a bomb threat against DMV while in the building, just before he registered the car.

I appreciate your candor, sister.

Though I'm not a spiritual person, your comments are spot on.

Thanks for the ping.

Some of Islam's teachings don't help matters here, but it is also a handy cover for what I feel is a mental illness that Muhammad has. Still, if he's guilty fry him promptly!

Sure thing.

Chicken-egg? Crazy religion attracts crazy followers? In any event, with tonight's news of more killings during September, it appears that the October "spree" was merely business as usual, except that Muhammad and Malvo decided to draw atention to themselves by changing their pattern (five or six in one day, geographical concentration), broadcasting their deeds, and forsaking robberies. For whatever "reason" Muhammad set out on his path, I am afraid that he is going to end up as one of the worst mass killers -- if not the worst -- in American history. This man would as soon kill someone as say hello, and may have done so in ten, fifteen, twenty different states. Are we talking about 30 murders? Forty? Fifty? The mind boggles.

Reminds me of the Atlanta child killings in the early 80's.

All the professional black racists were annoucing it "had" to be the work of whites, probably the KKK.

When the perp, a creepy young black male was caught, we didn't hear a murmur of apology from the black racists and their enabler media.

White folks should not have to take racism, any more then other groups.

It's time to stand up for OUR rights and dignity.

"We had a nut on our hands. Just a simple nut."

I agree; although, these two are a bit more complex, sinister than one's average "simple nuts."
What the public's been told were their motive(s)?
Hasn't nearly sated my curiosity.
There hasn't been the ring of truth to anything I've heard up to now coming from the "authorities."

"His faith had nothing to do with it."

That, Mr.Jenkins, remains to be seen.
I certainly am not about to take the word of "USA Today" for anything & unless you're some kind of shill?
I suggest you not, either.

...including the date printed at the top of their rag.

The FBI is doing spin, but Taylor is not? Heck, I don't trust EITHER of them, but please!

Everyone does spin, consciously or not, including you. The only question regarding believability is: do they present correct, verifiable facts.

Taylor does -- what he says comes from the government's own stats, during the Clinton Administration (which surely cannot be considered a "right-wing" source).

You, on the other hand, present statement's which, when checked, turn out to be verifiably false (see my post #37).

I'm still waiting for your response on that

Yup; at that point, they went silent.

As you can plainly see by how this has been recieved, so far?

This splendid piece -- complete with names, places, dates, links & other assorted data -- will in all liklihood be rejected outright by America.

Specifically, rejected by white America; "Liberal-Socialist" or otherwise.

Utterly ignored, is more like it.

The background info on the NOI, its predecessors and spinter-successor groups, was most informative and welcome. The mainstream media should be doing this kind of digging but obviously are not.

It would be so much easier, if we could all just ignore the mainstream media, but we can't. There's just enough truth mixed in with all the disinformation, to make them indispensable -- and thus all the more dangerous.

Please to meet you, Landru. I hope you very much unlike Horowitz though. I don't mind ex-liberals, just ex-liberals that court white supremacists while attacking blacks for embracing Farrakhan. Hey, that might be harsh, but there is a very good reason for the charge. Look up Jared Taylor.

Are you claiming that Horowitz courts white supremacists? That's a load of horses--t. I get it -- in your book, anyone who criticizes black racism is "court[ing] white supremacism." Maybe you can get away with that sort of white-baiting at D-U, but folks here -- including yours truly -- have actually read Horowitz. You ought to try reading him, yourself.

Anyway, there has been some letters published in today's USA TODAY that points out a major flaw in the whole thing that has come out charging Islam, rap music, blacks embracing Islam, etc. routine. Many of the people shot were themselves black, which would run against even the hate teachings.

I see you're as ignorant of the history of black supremacism as you are of David Horowitz. The history of black supremacism is the history of murder -- black-on-black and black-on-white alike.

What's more this guy did things like go to confession that suggest he was not motiviated by any faith. Let's face it. We had a nut on our hands. Just a simple nut. His faith had nothing to do with it.

"He went to confession"? That's news to me. And if he were white, would you reduce him to "just a simple nut"? Of course, not.
