Here's a manhood story I'm sure this thread will appreciate:

Yesterday in my class we were talking about lying ex-President Bill Clinton (that is how I always refer to him) and a female black student said something like the following:

"What such a big deal 'bout him cheatin' on his wife? She oughta know. A man goan be a man."

I responded, "My definition of a man is one who keeps his vows and his oaths, including the solemn oath in front of God to love, honor, and respect his woman when he marries her. I can tell you for certain that whenever I am lucky enough to marry my girlfriend I will never even think for one moment about being unfaithful, precisely because I'm a man, and not one of the clownish caricatures MTV has taught all of you to think of as 'men'."

I got an ovation. :) Even my "non-judgmental" student nodded and said, "I never thought of it that way." That's actually true, if you remove the last four words.

One on one....That's how hearts and minds are won. The others in your class never expect to hear someone who is one of them stand up and say the things you said. A simple statement made with obvious conviction can be a powerful force to provoke thought and show a better way.

What a great post. Funny, but a black female coworker of mine had the exact same response to Bill Clinton as your black female classmate did. Why should any black male be faithful, since it seems like their women expect them to cheat and even make excuses for it? Of course this is true of people in other races, as well.

Anyway, I love your response. Your fiancee is a lucky gal.
