And what exactly is your idea of "excessively loud"? I mean since you seem to know what I drive.

Even a Flowmaster has a muffler. In fact, I thought it was illegel for a street legal vehicle to be on the road without one.

Anything that disrupts the peace of my home while I'm inside it. Most noise ordinances have decibel specifications which are generally more stringent than my standards are.

They (mufflers) are required here. Cats are required for emissions here as well, it is illegal to remove them. I believe that cats ( but not mufflers) are required under federal law for any street use anywhere, but some areas don't have local enforcement regualations about this.

Most State codes in the U.S. have contained the language "unusual noise" (not the usual factory sound) since the 1950's. Because of Flowmaster's "distinctive tone"
namely, a lower frequency that can be heard and felt at greater distances, even their "street" products are illegal on public roads in most states. When Flowmaster and other after-market merchandisers say "50 States Legal" they are not telling you the whole story. When these products are sold in many states, Flowmaster and others are not doing the purchaser nor the local business person any favors.

Any unnecessary noise that intrudes into the property of another or causes distress to those around it is too loud.

Unnecessary noise is noise that is created just for the pleasure of creating it rather than as a letigitamate part of daily living. And among civilized manly men even necessary noise is created with great care not to harm those effected by it.
