My Night with the Dems!

I am a cameraman for NBC news in Connecticut. My election night duty was to cover Connecticut's 5th district race between Nancy Johnson-R and Jim Maloney-D. This race was one of the most closly watched in the nation because re-districting forced two well known incumbents to fight for the seat. I was assigned to Maloney headquarters. They had a big screen TV and were tuned to CNN. At first, all of the Big Labor dims were in a festive and optimistic mood. Early returns showed Maloney doing very well in the blue collar districts. The drinks were flowing and so was the venom toward Republicans. These labor types are rabid partisans. Then, it started. PAIN. Dole wins. Jeb wins. Chamblis wins. Pryor wins,(woo-hoo), Allard wins,(oh crap). Once the river of red started to flow across the beer soaked screen, even the dimmest of the dims knew what was happening. Adding to their anguish, the rumor in the hall was that Maloney was already drafting his concession speech, Jonnson's returns left no doubt that the 5th district was now Bush country. Maloney concedes, tears start to flow, I had to punch myself in the face to keep from smiling. The hall is now silent. All eyes glued to the screen, wide open, as the magnitude of the Republican victory starts to set in. Maloney staffers start to snarl and snear. "How can the American people be so stupid?", they cry. "This can't be true!", they wail. This truly was one of the best nights of my life. My faith in this great Republic has been restored. In that hall last night, I saw the true enemies of the Constitution, and they were vanquished. Last night I saw the last nail driven into the Clinton legacy when Carvile put his head in a garbage can. Last night, I saw substance finally win out over symbolism.

This truly was one of the best nights of my life. My faith in this great Republic has been restored. In that hall last night, I saw the true enemies of the Constitution, and they were vanquished. Last night I saw the last nail driven into the Clinton legacy when Carvile put his head in a garbage can. Last night, I saw substance finally win out over symbolism.

These labor types are rabid partisans.

Man, I can second that!

I was working as a construction field engineer back in '84, when the union construction hands were all walking around with Mon-dull bumper stickers wrapped around their hard-hats.

The funny thing was, they were all rabidly partisan Democrats, yet they were racist as h*ll. I never heard the "N-word" used more often and with such gusto by white guys since my youth in Alabama.

I was howling with laughter seeing carville with that garbage can on his head!!

It was the first time I watched CNN in about 2 years. I simply had to, to see the face of that announcer who looked like he was gonna cry when he knew Cleland was toast. Judy looked more composed than he did. It was simply glorious. The Carville thing was like whipped cream on my coffee....delicious.

Pleased to vote a straight GOP ticket in Connecticut 5th yesterday, even knowing what a giant RINO Nancy Johnson is -- the weather in Conn. is absolutely dismal today; cold, dark, drizzling. But the sun's out for me!!!
