This race is over. Another Democrat playing the "race" card. She could at least have said "this contest is over." If I were Ford, I'd sue.

Most conservatives don't care what your color, ethnicity, or religion is. What counts is your character and your thinking (ideology). Terms like "token" were invented by the liberal media to denigrate those "minorities" who had the audacity to think for themselves and the wherewithal to leave the liberal plantation.
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
They are gambling that they can hold onto their minority constuencies while trying to woo back the greens/far leftists. They will fail to do either if they follow in Pelosi's direction.

>>In the last 10 years the the Democrats have been Gerrymandered into 192 very very Democratic seats<<
Is the number really that high?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Dims pull a similar move when Terry "Global Crossing" McAwful was made chair of the DNC. They dissed a black candidate (I think he was a former mayor of Atlanta) who had the backing of the NAACP figuring blacks would never leave the plantation. Now 2 years later the same thing is happening. Hopefully blacks are waking up to the fact that they've been carrying water for white liberals long enough. The first step is happening, they're staying home on election day out of disgust and indifference, now the next step is for republicans to reach out, but reach out while remaining true to conservative principals. To reach out by simply out-pandering the libs is to invite disaster. Republicans have been given a golden opportunity, I hope they don't do the usual and snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

"Ford, D-Tenn., wants to replace Dick Gephardt as House minority leader because Pelosi is too "liberal." Far left is more like it." The Democrats are reaching critial mass in their scheme to bring a sucessful closure to their committment to socialize America. Naming a member of the Progressive Caucus as minority leader will move their party further to the left and and prepare Americans tutelage on the benefits of a socialized America. The media will ensure its successful completion spewing their mantra 24/7 throughout the living rooms and bedrooms of the unsuspecting citizens.
This calculated move no doubt was moved above schedule capitalizing on the heart-felt eulogies of their fallen martyr Paul Wellstone, from both sides of the political aisle. Paul Wellstone was one of their very own rising stars of the Progressive Caucus. He could have very well been their messiah had he lived.
The critical question will be how the citizens react to the New Democrat message that will rise from the ashes of the November 2002 election results.

Don't you have to be at least 35 years old to be elected to the U.S. Senate? (of course laws have never stopped Democrats before...)

If they picked Ford, we'd have problems but with Bill & Hill running things, Pelosi is probably in. After all, it's for the children and all about the right to kill the unborn. Yes and even though the House has passed before a bill banning "partial birth abortions", if they bring this up again in the next session, you can BET Ms. Pelosi will be at the forefront, screaming that only *women* should have the right to kill their babies and that Congress should stay out. It will be the perfect defining moment for Minority Leader Pelosi as she will immediately be loved by the media, the feminazis and the left - and portray herself as the extremist she truly is to the rest of the country. You just wouldn't have that same type of response from Gephardt.

Note to Harold Ford Jr.: There's room for you in the Republican Party. No,there's not! Aren't there already enough leftists in the Republican Party to suit you? Why do we need more,so we can become even MORE like the Dims?
To: McGavin999
Personally, I think that HRC is the one who is backing Pelosi. Bingo!
To: M. Peach
I'll bet he becomes a Senator soon, and the Republicans would be well advised to try to woo him over to their side. Hey - it could happen! Ford couldn't beat Frist (who should be Majority Leader - IMHO).
To: Tall_Texan
35 year-old limitation is for president. Senate is 30 and House is 25. It's all in the Constitution!
Best regards,
MT

More like McAwful was the first black DNC chairman courtesy of our nation's first black President. Really. :)

Harold Ford is doing the right thing politically-- he's smart. He knows he can't win because Pelosi has enough votes already. What he's doing is reminding people that he's there (for the future). I think that the Dem's choice of Pelosi is a loser for them, but they are already resigning themselves to the fact that 2004 is going to be a loss for them. Ford wants to be there to pick up the pieces when the time comes.

"It's simple: We've become a nation increasingly ruled by emotions and feelings -- in a word, feminized. Men and women have different psychological make-ups. Women tend to be more nurturing, sensitive and submissive. They demonstrate greater feelings of love and tend to exhibit grief to a greater extent than men. On the other
hand, men tend to be more competitive, aggressive and hostile than women. ... Female characteristics are vital to a well-ordered society, for they exert a civilizing influence. I'd never want to live in a society where women didn't have a major role in the rearing of children and management of the household. However, sensitivity, nurturing and a capacity to exhibit grief are not the
best characteristics for political leadership." --Walter Williams

A formal invitation to switch alignment should be extended to Rep. Ford by the GOP.
Ford has impressed me with being sensible, rational, and capable in those few times I have heard/read his commentary.
He should be reminded that Ronald Reagan joined the GOP when he became convinced the DNC had abandoned him. Ford should follow in the footsteps of that great man.
I think we would benefit from him as well.
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
they have been decimated. They need to be annihilated. And then replaced with a new set of parties accurately reflecting the "diversity" crowded under the current misnomer label of "democrat"
To: Chemnitz
very apt comparison, except... the Borgias actually did do SOME nice things.
To: fnord
