During the early '80s, the news media were coming out with stories all over the place about how Vietnam vets were crazy violent nutcases that were made crazy by the military and their service in Vietnam. They conveniently overlooked the fact that military veterans were actually more stable. The rate that veterans commit crimes and have mental problems is significantly below the national average.

That's the media for you: Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

The actual problem was that every crazy violent nutcase in the '80's claimed to be a Vietnam vet, and the media and the "pacifists" bought it.

I am a Vietman vet, and my wife is always telling me I have a mental problem. But, if I recall correctly, she said it before I went to Vietnam, too.
