CBS Radio labels nancy Pelosi "ultra-liberal"
KCBS - CBS Radio News ^ | 8 Nov 2002 | MIKE PULSIPHER

Posted on 11/08/2002 11:50:07 PM PST by ThePythonicCow

On the CBS radio news at the top of the hour, they cut to a report from Mike Pulsipher, of the CBS affiliate radio station KCBS 740 in San Francisco, to describe Nancy Pelosi's imminent selection to the House Minority Leader. Mike matter of factly labeled her the "ultra-liberal Nancy Pelosi".

It's rare that such labels are used on liberals. 'Twas good to hear. Times they are a changing.

I just hope this doesn’t make the RINO’s think this gives them room to move left and still be differentiated from the Dimocrats.

"The problem is that they probably meant it as a compliment."

I guarantee you it was meant as a compliment. KCBS is nauseatingly liberal. Their idea of news is sending a reporter out to every protest that has five or more loonies marching around san Francisco and keeping us posted repeatedly with the latest on the demonstration. They will of course ignore totally any conservative protest, even if it involves 1,000's. Thank God for KSFO 560. I never tune to KCBS exept in an extreme traffic situation, because they do have superior traffic reporting.

We have seen Minnesota Dems turn down Alan Page, a popular black Democrat in favor of an "old dead white male", Mondale.

Did that get any coverage at all, outside of conservative sources?

The same kind of labels were applied to her all night on almost every talking head show that was on. I was amazed. It sounds like the "mainstream" electronic media is terrified of the ratings that FNC is getting and does not want to be given the leftist label themselves. The DUhers are even bitching and moaning that the media is now sold out to the evil corporate right and that CNN was a tool of the RNC!!!!!

What is an "ultra-liberal"? I thought that the entire political spectrum consisted of "ultra-conservatives," "right wing conservatives," "conservatives" and "moderates."

At least, that's the entire political spectrum according to most of the media.

Times they are a changing.

Interesting. As you know, the networks are loathe to label liberals. Searches of news stories have revealed that news organizations apply the terms "conservative" and "right-wing" many, many more times than the counter-part terms.

If there is a shift in this practice, what accounts for it? Could it be the success of the Fox News Network? Viewership of the major networks is in major decline and there are even suggestions that the network news divisions may cease to exist as more Americans turn to the cable channels for news, especially Fox.

For years I wondered why our capitalistic system did not produce a "fair and balanced" competitor for the slanted networks' coverage. I felt the demand for such a network was present and good ratings would be assured. I felt that if one network emerged as a fair and balanced news source, the others might be eventually forced to follow suit. We shall see.

Real progress will be when NPR starts calling her "that commie."

I caught a few minutes of Bill Moyers last night on government supported TV. I don't remember the name of the program, but it was pretty balanced. He had a male guest who blamed America for the existence of Terrorism in the world, but then he had a female guest who had the same views. That's Public TV's idea of "fair and balanced."

These clowns just REFUSE to let us stop gloating! This is absolutely BEAUTUFUL!!! (As oposed to Pelosi and Boxer).

What does she think the environmental damage would be if a Saddam supplied AQ nuke went off in the bay area?

Depends on the yield. It could blow up Chinatown, maybe. I'm assuming crude devices manufactured according to the same rough design as the Stanford grad student's design that was confiscated and classified 20 years ago, and yielding under 5 kilotons. At eight miles, a weapon like that would barely break glass windows in a house. Do a search for interactive weapons-effects pages on a competent search engine like Moonmist, Dogpile, or AskJeeves.

A military weapon, such as an ex-Soviet artillery round, would be a horse of a very different color.

I guess the same reporter would describe Fidel Castro as an Ultra-Liberal, too.

No, it's all relative. Compared to Pelosi, Fidel is a right-winger.

I was channel surfing last night and came upon CNBC. They were showind clips of Ford and Pelosi and the graphic at the bottom of the screen said, "Communist Congress". I was stunned. Could it be that the media would start telling the truth about these people? Then the graphic was turned off and they switched to a clip of the Chinese Communist Congress starting a session and turned the "Communit Congress" graphic back on. It seems that someone got out of synch, jumped the gun and accidently told the truth by turning the grapic on one story too soon. It was great to see. Anyone else catch that?

"The dems are going the George McGovern route. Funny... how history always repeats itself."

Yup. Having lived through that era, that was my first thought too.

As many here on FR have pointed out Politically speaking, she is a female Ted Kennedy

I'm not saying that in her personal life she is like him.....She's an ultraliberal, female Ted Kennedy...complete with a father and an older brother who were involved in politics.

Pelosi, 62, in her seventh term, appears the quintessential liberal San Francisco Democrat, though she was born into a Baltimore political dynasty and spent years building a political organization and a fund-raising network that broadened her base. She is the daughter of former Baltimore mayor Thomas D'Alesandro Jr. and sister of Thomas D'Alesandro III, who also held the mayor's post.

Too much good news, indeed!! And it quit raining here in Texas!!! I'm going to church tomorrow. Well, maybe I'll just have a private conference call with The Man instead.

When I heard Ford jumping into the ring, I thought we were in for trouble...but they rejected that intelligent, popular and reasonable BLACK MAN for a rich white woman in two heartbeats!! My gosh. Go Dems!! Dig that hole!!
