WASHINGTON - Arizona Sen. John McCain, the nation's most-visible crusader against campaign-finance abuses, is seeing his own practices and ethics examined, and perhaps tarnished, in sworn testimony that has become part of a lawsuit to undo a new campaign-finance law.

An interesting note to followers of this charter member of the "Keating Five". I guess Honest John forgot the rule about casting stones whilst occupying a house made of glass....

If McCain wins his next primary, it will be the Torch in reverse? No thanks. Sounds like McCain might need a strong primary fight.

McCain is(quite simply)A HYPOCRITE!While I will always hold him in high esteem for his courage in refusing to be made a pawn of North Vietnam and, instead of taking the easy way out,he remained in captivity and was beaten and tortured!!I will ALWAYS admire him for this but his behavior as a"Republican?"Senator has been(and is)reprehensible!!!

Abrams then also asked McCain about having written letters as Commerce Committee chairman on Nov. 17, 1999, and Dec. 10, 1999, a time when he was early into his presidential run, to the Federal Communications Commission inquiring about the status of a ruling on a proposed TV station and license sale in Pittsburgh...Is there a Pittsburgh, Arizona? If not what is he doing wasting his constituents' time on Pennsylvania's concerns?

Quite an interesting article on the CFR lawsuit.
I really did not know it had gotten this personal. It is quite clear from the tone and content of the depositions that McCain and McConnell will be sworn enemies from now on.
McCain chose, in effect, to be a Democrat when he chose to champion this cause. He no more believes in the concept of the CFR legislation than I do, but he knew he would become a media darling and, therefore a Presidential "contender" (at least in his own mind) by bucking his party on this issue.
Given Tuesday's election results, it seemed the prospect of McCain switching to "independent" totally went away. After reading this article, I am not so sure. McConnell will becpme Majority Whip. While it looks like McCain will get a committee chairmanship, I understand there is at least one scenario where he could be frozen out--(If Senator Stevens elects to change committees, that is.)
I can see a scenario where McCain might become bitter enough to pull out of the party, especially if he could convince Chafee to go with him.
Maybe getting that South Dakota senate seat and/or winning the one in Louisiana is more important than we think.

When it was revealed that X42 and her spouse had taken chicom $$$ the dems started finance reform. Fully intened to ignore whatever law was passed. The media picked it up and ran interference for the dems, as usual. McManic's been romancing the $2 whore ever since. What a disgrace he is.

Question. If McCain switches parties can he be recalled? I seem to remember there was a "Recall McCain" movement a while ago.
Second question. When is he up for re-election?

There was an effort to recall McCain, but it fizzled.
He is up for re-election in 2004.

McCain is a veteran who fought and suffered for his country, and passed up a chance to get out early because it would have violated the military honor code. That makes him all right in my book.
As for CFR, I do think parts of it are unconstitutional, and those will be tossed. What remains will likely be vastly beneficial to us, as we can outraise the Democrat party in hard money by like a 3-1 ratio.

"McCain is going to wish he never opened this can of worms called CFR..." The McCain's Campaign Finance Reform Crusade is clearly the product of a guilty conscience...
Even if he's not dirty, he thinks he's dirty...

He is up for re-election in 2004. Thank you.
So, how well loved is he there? Could he lose the primary if he continues this path? (Might give him incentive to switch) Or if he ran as a RAT or Independent is it likely he'd lose? (gives him incentive to stay)

McCain and Chaffee WILL NOT BOLT THE PARTY.
You just have to understand the perks that McCain has in his position as a "senior senator" - and with his cancer increasing, he would be totally stupid to make such a move. Even though I don't like him as a person, because he is still holding a grudge against the President, I do not at any time consider him stupid.
And ... any "republican" who allows his wife to wear a pin supporting Hitlery has to have some serious issues. However, they are not serious enough to prompt him to bolt the party.
He did what the dems wanted (out of loyalty to those dems who had supported his run for pres against GW) - hog-tying the GOP 60 days from elections, in total disregard for the 1st Amendment. I believe this garbage bill will find defeat in the USSC.

Like Cleland, what you did 30 years ago will get you respect, but it should not guarantee you votes. McCain has been trading on what he did years ago, but the voters remember what you did during the last term.
Abrams should have asked him about the letter to the FCC recommending they rethink their decision about the new stadium being in the flight path at Sky Harbor Airport, so his buddies could make bundles off the land sale.
