Thanks Mamab!

I lived in Huntsville as a child. I have fond memories of weekend trips to Montisano. Is that how you spell it?

I don't want to sound zen or anything, but that chant was Freerepublic coined and I felt like just an offshoot of the big liberty tree that grows here at Freerepublic!!!

Wasting away again in Montgomeryville.

Looking for my lost box of votes.

Rip claims that a conspiracy is to blame,

but I know, I just plain lost.

:-)

Thanks very much TonyRo! I hope everyone will keep their eye on Alabama and keep the state in their prayers, that the right thing will be done.

If Seigleman really won, I would rather have him in, than win through the back door. That having been said, the Democrats here are well known to be sleazy and will stoop to any level to keep power. They are trying to get a lottery pushed through and there is a lot of money at stake.

Sheesh, if they were fighting for some principles or something, it would be different!

If anything is planned and you hear about it, will you freepmail me? I've gotten a taste of the Freeplife, and I like it!

Thanks for the reply!

What are some of the biggest problems you see with the lottery?

T-Ro, thanks so much for that post!!! You could of kept writing, it was really informative!!!

Our homeschool group has been discussing it, so this post was very helpful. Some people just don't realize what the drawbacks are. I suspected some of them, but you did clear things up quite a lot.

It seems so dreadfully sad and hopeless for these people who "play the lottery."
And it seems nothing more than EVIL from the *leaders* who push this stuff through.

Excellent points. Another point is that politicians tend to play a shell game with the funds collected. For instance, once the lottery is in place and they have a "dedicated revenue stream" for education, they then take the funds previously earmarked for education that were gathered through taxation and redirect them to other uses - uses that tend to empower government and infringe on our freedoms. As a case in point, I offer Florida. They've had a lottery for years, and it was supposed to be the panacea for all education woes. However, if you noticed during the recent campaign for Governor in Florida that the one issue they kept beating to death was how the education system was critically underfunded.

And, while I'm sure that my Libertarian friends will disagree, I don't think government has any business promoting a lottery. It just provides another avenue for people with weaknesses in certain areas to do stupid, irresponsible things..

I have to give all the credit to reading post by Freepers like Kristinn and others from the DC chapter who coined the phrase "Get out of Cheney's house!" And Mr. Robinson where such an exhange of ideas can take place!

But oh it was great!!!!

Good for you Jael. So glad to see a freeper had the nerve to do that in Alabama. I do wish that I could have been there to cheer you on.
