To make a link, one takes the URL (Internet address) of the page, and some link text. For example, let's make a link to Free Republic. The URL is "http://www.freerepublic.com", and it's very important to include the http://, for some other resources don't use http and that will confuse and break the link. Instead of bras and kets, (< = bra, > = ket) I'll use the square brackets [].
[a href="http://www.freerepublic.com"]Free Republic[/a] would appear as...
Free Republic.
