Belafonte Defends Slave Comment in Chicago Visit ('Amazed' at Public Outrage)
Chicago Sun Times ^ | Nov. 14, 2002 | Curtis Lawrence

Entertainer and long time human rights activist Harry Belafonte told a gathering of Chicago liberals Wednesday he would not back down from his criticisms of National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice and Secretary of State Colin Powell for being 'house slaves' doing the bidding of President Bush.

'I didn't say anything that you haven't been saying,' Belafonte told the gathering, who responded with chuckles and applause.

He spoke at a private breakfast at the Gold Coast Penthouse of Bettylu Saltzman, former Chief of Staff to Senator Paul Simon (D-Ill.)

More than 50 like minded people paid $100.00 to hear Belafonte at the gathering, which was a fundraiser for the Chicago Committee to defend the Bill of Rights.

Guests included former alderman and radio talk show host Cliff Kelley, DuSable Museum founder Margaret Burroughs and activist and media consultant Marilyn Katz. mer alderman

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

If Belafonte thinks his life is going to get any easier not being protested all over the country, he is sadly mistaken.

Doesn't exactly sound like a meeting of the congregation. Tell me again who is the "house slave", Harry?

Hopefully Mr. Belafonte will fall underneath a truck and taste his own blood.

Belafonte has been on Massa Stalin's plantation so long he don't know which end is up. Time for someone to tally his bananas.

I wonder how much it REALLY cost Charles Schwab last month to embrace Harry Belafonte? I personally withdrew over $100,000. They never even gave me the courtesy of a phone call, or even a form letter/email.

Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell are leading the nation and the world and making history. For Belafonte, it's been downhill since he kowtowed to Ed Sullivan back in the 50's. You know that rankles. You could almost feel sorry for the poor, confused, benighted slob.

His fundraising power only grosses $5,000?

He'd probably raise more money tallying bananas.

He probably wasn't saying anything that those other mental pygmies weren't saying already.

Organization to raise money for the Bill of Rights? Hmmmm.

Does that include the Second Amendment? How about freedom of speech when the speaker isn't spouting their leftist drivel?

I remember Senator Simon. Glad he's gone.

"Time for someone to tally his bananas."

LOL! Harry missed his chance to get off the banana boat years ago. It's pitiful.

Another indication of the disoriented thinking of the left. They scream about Republicans not having any blacks, then accuse any blacks in the Republican Party of being "house niggers." Of course, the only blacks the Democrats want are the "Step 'n Fetch it" variety or political bozos who offer no threat to the white plantation owners. Eventually, more and more minorities will start to side with the Republicans.

Someone should write a history of the Republicans and the Democrats going back to the first Republican nominee for President, Charles Fremont. They were against slavery while the Democrats supported slavery in the South. The Democrats attacked Fremont (and the next candidate, Lincoln) on being "nigger lovers," etc. They also attacked Fremont on being Catholic, whipping up the anti-Catholic vote. The Republicans supported the first blacks in Congress and the Senate after the Civil War - the Democrats had the black vote repealed after regaining control. Now, why do blacks (and Catholics) vote Democratic? This should be discussed.

If it happened here in Chicago it should be: More than 50 like minded people paid $100.00 to hear Belafonte at the gathering, which was a fundraiser for the Chicago Committee to defend the Bill of Rights (except the 2nd Amendment).
