Could it be? Let the fat cutting begin. Private industry has been outsourcing for many years. I wonder how federal employees will respond to competition...

It is apparent that Bush intends to move many jobs out of the public sector and into the private sector - where there is accountablity.

WASHINGTON President Bush plans to open up as many as 850,000 federal jobs to competition from the private sector, administration officials said Thursday, a sweeping reform long sought by Republicans and stiffly opposed by labor unions.
Nearly half of the government's civilian work force could be affected by the plan to be published in the Federal Register on Friday. After a 30-day public review period, Bush can impose the new rules without congressional approval.

They have been outsourcing for years on the federal govt as well. Probably more so than the public sector. They just shuffle and hire elsewhere so the public doesnt see any real gain. Not to mention that outsourced jobs typically save money for only a short time then contract creep eats it all up.

At some point, the unions are going to have to come to the realization that being totally committed to one political party is a very bad idea. Yet again, they backed the wrong horse in this race, and this is the price they pay.
I am hopeful that once Boss Sweeny is gone, the unions will become more evenhanded in their dealings with the GOP. There are a number of issues they agree with us on such as ANWR.
If we can at least lessen the RATS' grip on the unions, it will cripple their fund raising and GOTV efforts.

I can hear the unions and democrats yelling and screaming already. Them and their lackeys in the main stream press will go ballistic. I love it. Go George.

Bush does not waste time, does it? The biggest group affected are federal unions, one of the groups most diametrically opposed to a republic administration. With competition, it's either work, improve and become more efficient, or lose your job. Oh no, they're going to have to work!! Suddenly those jobs are no longer feeling as safe as they used to be!
The beauty in all of this is that it's the right thing to do. Democrats will have to oppose this (as the union will have them do whether they like it or not). I want to see how they're going to sell that the government should have no competition and should stay inefficient. That'll work great with voters!

Woo-hoo. Good start, but sounds like most bureaucrats' jobs are still safe, sadly.
Under the plan, "commercial activities" conducted by the government from lawn mowing to hanging drywall and secretarial work will be open to competition.

Accountability??? You must be joking. Its fed contacting officers watching them, which is tantamount to "money for nothing". Games contractors play and win in court is soooo sad, only John Q Public is kept in the dark. Contractors hire ex-feds and play the system for all its worth. Usually poor performance covered up by corrupted KO's that end up on the greener side of the fence. Only fraudulent practices and phony reports make it sound like a good deal. And by the way, NOTHING EVER WORKS and there is still a cadre of useless females/minoritites pretending to monitor the whole game.

This sounds a lot better than it really is! Even if I were allowed, I couldn't begin to tell how often "out-sourcing" has cost you and me as tax-payers MUCH more than if we had use "organic" resources. I used to do the work; now I do the paperwork to farm it out to private industry, and it's downright scary how much more it now costs (and how much longer it often takes, and how it has sometimes failed to work or even caused combat platforms to "crash and burn" - not talking computers, either!!)!
There are SOME areas not involving national level missions in which outsourceing can be a good thing, but where the rubber meets the road....
BTW, where private industry and federal employees have met head-to-head, the rules for the federal employees are laughably restrictive compared to the wonderful flexibility allowed private industry, and even with the playing field definitely tilted in favor of private industry, federal employee "bids" have often won.
Be VERY careful here - all is not as it appears!

The Unions are already going nuts. Let the sweeping out begin. They should do the same with the Post Office.

Also limit the Liberal colleges as the primary recipients of Government pork.. for wasteful "research" grants..
Start with Mass. and look closely at all the "Blue" areas that teach socialist pc dogma to empty heads... The Left uses our tax funds to screw up our culture..
IT IS RIGHT.. TO DEFUND THE LEFT
