The Free State Project

The Free State Project is a plan in which 20,000 or more liberty-oriented people will move to a single state of the U.S., and work within its political system to reduce the size and scope of government. We will reduce burdensome taxation and regulation, reform state and local law, opt out of federal mandates, and negotiate directly with Washington for appropriate political autonomy. We will prove to the nation and the world what liberty can accomplish.

I was reading Atlas Shrugged and wondered why no one tried this yet.

This also struck me as an Ayn Rand kind of thing to do.

Personally, I would prefer Delaware. Nice people, great beaches, close enough to big cities to support my line of work.

The number of times these guys say "Oklahoma", I'm reminded of Ruprecht the Monkey Boy in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels".

On a side note, this thread was already posted and trashed. Shall we trash this one, too?

My vote was for North Dakota, an aging, declining population, a border with canada, not very much federal land(they might get angry). Wyomoing is even more landlocked(high and dry) and alaska is atleast 51% or more federal land.

At first I liked the idea, but I've come to the conclusion that it simply won't be allowed within the borders. If you really want to do it, you have to take over a small country.

Here in the US, you'll just be subjected to a gigantic Waco.

Costa Rica is real nice.

There are just over 2,000 signed up and once it reaches 5,000 they will vote on the state. There are about 10 candidates.
I'm voting for Wyoming or Idaho.

Oooh, ooh, can we have free love and nickel beer, too?

What a whacko idea! If the people in a state want things one way, what makes it OK for strangers to move in to try to change it to another way? What happens when the "new" way is achieved, do the strangers move back to where they came or to the next state?

How are they going to find 20,000 people who all agree on every point in a list of items to change? Are we talking cult, here? Isn't this what the Hare Krishnas tried to do out in the west some years back?

This is what the Mormons did when they moved west to open territory. But, they built, rather than changed. Although, I guess this is what Mexican illegals and their leftist allies are doing, moving into an English speaking state and changing the culture and the way public resources are expended.

There were only a few wako's at Waco, there are thousands involved in this, and during a Republican administration. This is Revolution through the system. Right now 2 Senators would control the agenda of the nation....

I hear Idaho is the leading contender. They hope to try within 4-5 years. I wonder if they intend to concentrate and try county by county, twenty thousand votes doesn't seem enough to unseat the established parties.

You know this, and I know this, but these idiots don't.

I suppose it does keep them from wandering the streets at night, and gives 'em a hobby.

Rhode Island would be better than PR. Doesn't smell as bad.
It's a third world country and might be the only place unimportant enough to be left alone. First, have to dig up the cemetaries and move them to Connecticut so that the democrats would have no more voters.

Only about a million people in RI.

When the time comes and the call is heard,
when the mark has begun to be taken,
many more in number will leave this place.
Finally, all left behind will begin to splinter without
the lord's faithful holding the fabric together.

Good point! But PR coasts along on American Taxpayers money without having to pay all the taxes that we do. Still, it could be a toss up between the two.
