BANGOR, Maine (AP) Fellow Roman Catholic parishioners from the church attended by Gov.-elect John Baldacci were unable to secure a protection from harassment order against abortion protesters who are using graphic photos to convey their message.

The demonstrators have been showing up to St. John's since June, saying Baldacci and other politicians who support abortion rights should be barred from using church facilities for fund-raisers and other political events.

McLaughlin said Baldacci attended a dinner at the parish hall recently but that it was not a political event.

Sure, Father, and you're really against abortion yourself, aren't you? I mean just personally, in your heart or someplace, like good liberals are supposed to be? Not that you'd ever bring it up in a sermon . . .

Daschle thinks the right wing is threatening him.

Maybe Daschle can accuse those abortion pictures of attacking him, too.

Pro-lifer banned from church (June 17. 2002)

BANGOR, Maine - A pro-life university professor has been banned by a bishop from a Catholic church for delivering before the parish congregation an unannounced pro-life notice. University of Maine Professor Terrance Hughes said the matter arose after he learned of fund-raising spaghetti dinner to be hosted May 24 by pro-abortion U.S. Rep. John Baldacci at St. John’s Church in Bangor.

Baldacci, who calls himself a Catholic, has a consistent voting record in favor of abortion. He has voted three times in favor of partial birth abortion. Moreover, Hughes said that 10 years ago he picketed a spaghetti dinner at a local public high school where Baldacci was raising funds for a local abortion clinic.

Hughes attempted to bring the matter of the May 24 event to the attention of the parish priest and the local bishop, but received no responses to his communications. Taking matters into his own hands, before a Mass on May 11 Hughes addressed parishioners letting them know Baldacci’s record on abortion and displaying a sign depicting an aborted baby. Hughes was ordered out of the church by the parish priest, Fr. Jerry Gosselin, and left peacefully. After leaving the church following his presentation of only a few minutes, Hughes said, Fr. Gosselin addressed him saying: “Wait till the university hears about this; you’re finished.”

Hughes addressed his concerns over the incident in a letter to Bishop Joseph Gerry of Portland, Maine. He was later informed that he was issued an order barring him from the church for a year.

Twelve pro-lifers demonstrated outside the church as Baldacci hosted the parish dinner on May 24. Hughes said he informed the bishop that he and other pro-lifers have been showing the graphic abortion signs in various cities and towns, but not until now “in front of churches; maybe that’s where we should have been from the beginning.”

Makes you wonder "who is in who's pocket."

Yes, they ARE sick. And the more I find out about their side, the sicker they become IMHO!

There is no trust anymore. Not in anyone. Elected officials, Churches, Priests,Pastors.......in their little back rooms, none of them are any better then the rest of us. Some are even a lot worse. This sickens me.

We are supposed to hold them in high esteem. But when they go in their rooms and shut the door, they are no better then anyone else. "Do As I Say Not As I Do!" And they smoke their big cigars and laugh at us all the way to the banks.

I'm glad there are people like Hughes who are willing to shed light on some of the corruption.

You guys in Maine are in for a tough four years!

Baldacci has got to be the worst thing ever to happen to Maine, if your Militias thought clinton posed a threat, you aint seen nuthin yet.

We, my family and I, will not be summering in your state for at least four years.

What in the world could you have been thinking of? Don't people in Maine read the papers? Don't they follow politics at all?

I guess not! Most Mainers are "blinded by the DemocRATS White Light." And when they go to the polls, they think "Now, what was that guy's name that's all over the news? OH YES BALDACCI, THAT'S IT." ~sigh There you have it. Rough 4 years coming our way. Sad, but true.

But it is impossible not to know about baldacci, your Republican candidate must have been a real loser. In all the summers I have spent in Maine, i have yet to find anyone with a good workd to say about baldacci, other than he makes good spaggetti sauce.
