Remember when the Aggie cadet held the Rice cheerleader at saberpoint? That caused quite a flap!

No, a senior charged at the SMU cheerleaders in 1982. In 1974 the corps surrounded the Rice MOB (Marching Owl Band) and they had to be evacuated by food service trucks. The previous summer of Reveille had died, and the MOB formed a fire hydrant during their half-time show and played "Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone".

The OSU fans will need to remember how much fun they had at the riot when Miami beats them by 30 pts.

That may have been the funniest moment in the history of the Rice band(and there were many).

Oh I dunno, could be shaping up to be another upset, ala the Penn State-Miami Fiesta Bowl. Of course that assumes Miami will make it, which is no guarantee. OU, Georgia, and Iowa still have a shot. But 2Live Miami is the only team that could get me to root for OSU after this latest round of Columbus' apparent routine riots.

As a Florida State fan...advice to those who are'nt used to winning.

Act like you've been there before.

Miami will crush Ohiwho? State...but will not go ape schitt after they do it.

The State of Florida colleges have 9 National Championships in the last 20 years between them...we're used to it. :)

What was their crime?

Academic fraud and players getting extra benefits paid for at hotels during game stays. More info here.

I really have to admire the Florida schools and how they have dealt with the salary caps.

I would love to see USC play Miami. SC had the toughest schedule in the country, lost one in OT cause of a missed extra point at WSU and lost to Kansas St., there, by 7, Carson Palmer is the all time passer in the history of the Pac10 and the defense hasn`t allowed a 100 yd,. runner this season. The Irish will find out Sat. that they ain`t playing a Florida St.

Academic fraud? At Berkeley? Say it isn't so! Well, I know that they'vve always had a hard time fielding a winning team because of the academic standards, but this is beyond the Pale!

Imagine stooping to the standards of their competitors! < /sarcasm >

Cal's athletic teams achieved a combined 3.04 grade-point average during this past academic year, while 148 Golden Bears earned Academic All-Conference honors.

Frankly, I find this hard to believe -- unless they have had considerable grade inflation since I attended there!

You are right. My memory fails me. There was another incident when the MOB goosestepped down the field. That really enraged A & M. I've forgotten exacxtly what they did, but it caused a ruckus.

But it was an SMU cheerleader. As I remember, the saber wielder was suspended for the rest of the year. It made a great picture, however. I think it ran in every newspaper across the country.

Remember, Cal was the school that had the class where some students got credit for walking around naked in public or writing about their "non-mainstream" sexual exploits.

...some students got credit for walking around naked in public or writing about their "non-mainstream" sexual exploits.

I think the guy walking around naked just did that on his own. I don't think that was for "credit."

However, the other class was one of those student-led classes that were allowed to give a limited numberof credits for bizarre activities. I can assure you that we had none of that when I attended there. The classes were hard and comprehensive and most people were grateful to recive a "C" for their efforts at undergrad level. A "B" was remarkable, and an "A" was almost unheard of.

Graduate school was another story. Grading was "easier" because they thought that if you actually made it to grad school, you were probably pretty smart.

The closest I ever got to an "easy" class was a basic Architecture Review class (1 unit) that I used to fill out my program. It still was pretty difficult, although I did get my "A" -- it just didn't count for very much.
