That's a great attitude, swap out the word "rape" for "tearing down the goal post" and you see why it's a rediculous attitude. It's the one bad apple scenario, back in the "good ol' days" people only rarely tore down the goal post and that was the end of the anti-social post game behavior. Now it's happening more and more often, with more and more people getting hurt, and it's just the tip of the iceberg. The fans have no longer earned the right to go out on the field after the game, they can't be trusted. I'm sure it's a small percentage of the fans, but they've ruined it for everybody else.

Wait until somebody realizes that the current tort situation makes the colleges liable for whatever injuries are incurred tearing down the goal posts (I know it's stupid, but the college is in charge of the field, similar cases have proved ruinous to the rightful owner in many suits). Then the choice for the colleges become clear. Of course this isn't a discussion of what they will do, it's a discussion of what they SHOULD do. Unfortunately they won't do that until somebody sues the crap out of them.

The fans citizens have no longer earned the right to go out on the field after the game (own guns, speak out against their government, etc), they can't be trusted. I'm sure it's a small percentage of the fans citizens, but they've ruined it for everybody else.

Funny what replacing a few words will do, huh? I agree somewhat with your response and I would argue for a solution something to the effect of what my fellow North Carolinian suggested. Goalposts that are made out of something less than steel and iron, something disposable. It's not like they're ever struck, so something of a lesser weight and less expensive material could be used. Then again, I can see where that would not only condone more run outs, but they would probably increase.

I do agree it's a problem, but I don't see how more police are necessarily going to be the solution

That is a terrible attitude. Replace the word "Disco" with "FallaciousArgument," and you see what I mean.
