I'm trying to be a good Democrat like my daddy, but I have a few problems because I don't know how to be pro-jobs and anti-business. I can't figure out why tax cuts are bad when I spend the money instead of the federal government. And why should I embrace an economic system that makes everybody miserable and hopeless instead of one in which these conditions are minimal. I really can't fault a system which rewards contribution.
I don't know why I should hate my country and its Founders. No country in the world has created a system without poverty or injustice, but America has come the closest.
I can't reconcile unrestricted immigration with restricted land use. And I find it hard to be pro-life for heinous criminals but pro-death for innocent babies.
The Constitution is designed to protect the people from a strong central government, and that is wise. But my party wants the opposite.
I don't believe that the Republican Party stands for slavery, poverty, starvation, genocide, pollution, corporate crime and lousy public education. I grow increasingly uneasy with my inherited blind allegiance.

For some reason this has the ring of one of those apocryphal essays such as those erroneously attributed to George Carlin (or the famous Barbra Streisand 'Shakespeare' excerpt). I wouldn't mind being proved wrong, if it means that at least one young person is thinking for him/her self.

As a Democrat you must believe that there is nothing wrong with having two bumper stickers on your SUV -One that says "Help teach our children respect for life - tell your school it is wrong to disect frogs" and below it another bumper sticker that says "I am willing to die for the right to keep abortions legal."
You must believe that it is wrong to kill pregnant animals, but it is OK to kill unborn babies.
You must believe that increasing taxes decreases Crime, poverty, illiteracy and dirty water.
You must believe that teaching ten year old children how to use condoms, have sex and get abortions is good, but teaching abstinence is bad.
You must believe that children need to learn about homosexuality before they learn their ABCS.
You must believe that corporations are the cause of poverty, terrorism and pollution.
