November 26, 2002 -- Smokers here are either giving up the habit or heading to Indian reservations or the Internet to duck the city's $1.50 tax per pack.
Figures released yesterday by the City Council show revenues from the newly imposed tax are expected to generate $133 million by the end of the fiscal year on June 30.

When you're too spineless to cut spending, stick it smokers and claim it's for their own good.
New Yorkers are not sheeple. They have a better alternative to buying cigarettes, a legal commodity. And telling BloomingIdiot to go pound sand. He can pull the loss of cigarette revenue out of someplace else. heh!
They're plus $106 million, but they're pi$$ed because they are still short of their nebulous "projection".
They really thought that people wouldn't take evasive action to get away from their confiscatory tax scheme?

I agree! And aren't we just a little sick of hearing "If people continue to smoke, they will have to pay for it. And if the higher taxes force people into quitting smoking, isn't that what we REALLY WANT?" heh! Gag Alert!
