If we continue down this dangerous path of control and prohibition based on an unreliable or remote chance of harm, how many personal freedoms will remain seven generations from now?

In 1998, the World Health Organization reported a small, but not statistically significant, increase in the risk of lung cancer in non-smoking women married to smokers. The WHO also claims to have erradicated small pox. Yet they are chasing around monkey pox (small pox) while pretending it isn't small pox. I should trust the WHO or the CDC why?
Certainly though, there is no excuse for taking away liberties based upon science, good or bad.

Libs, environmentalists, etc - all exagerate. That's their main problem as it goes to integrity.

I think it can be safely stated that when someone doesn't like an acitivty that you clearly enjoy, and has decided to try to convince you to stop, the very first thing they're going to do is start lying to you.

Smoking WOULD be safe if they didn't add pesticide and other toxins to the tobacco. It IS those chemicals that pose a health risk, not the tobacco itself..

There is no excuse for smoking. lets say for one instance that it is overexagerated. are we really going to let our children and families be exposed to it even though it "might" be bad for you?!?!? My daughter has lung problems, and her father tries to use these same poor excuses to justify him smoking around her. isn't the fact that that they have found toxins and PROVEN that it does kill some people enough to say that we shouldn't be exposing people to it? What do we get from it? NOTHING!!! Does it benefit human kind any? NO IT KILLS!! does it make you feel good? NO YOU HACK YOUR LUNGS OUT EVERY MORNING!! Quit resisting and just accept the fact that there is no good reason to smoke. The only thing you people are trying to do is come up with excuses to keep filling sick and unsuspecting peoples lungs with toxic air. weather its AS bad as they say it is, is irrelevant!! Just the fact that its bad should be common sense enough to stop!!!

We don't have too many freedoms left now. I would point out, though, that pure nicotine is one of the most toxic poisons known to man. There's no question that cigarettes will kill you sooner than you would naturally die.

" unacceptable levels of toluene. "
Sounds like a day at work. We use such things to clean parts. The welding fumes (not to mention paints, gasoline, and other industrial chemicals) I breathe {even through a respirator) are a lot worse than any cig. so, can they out-law welding? Gee, sometimes I wish! Now, I am waiting for some do-gooder to tell me I need to find another job. Beware the evils of second-hand welding fumes!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, haw. What a straw man. It's not these trace toxins that make smoking deleterious to health.

Do you own a dry cleaners or a laundromat? Cigarette smokers and their clothes stink.
