Conservatives Dispute Bush Portrayal of Islam as Peaceful
washington post ^ | 11/30/02

President Bush finds himself in a rare disagreement with conservatives in his party over his efforts to portray Islam as a peaceful religion that is not responsible for anti-American terrorism.

In a score of speeches since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the president has called for tolerance of Muslims, describing Islam as "a faith based upon peace and love and compassion" and a religion committed to "morality and learning and tolerance."

Leaving Islam or encouraging others to do so is considered a crime in some countries,...

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20021201/ap_wo_en_po/na_gen_us_lebanon_missionary_killed_2

Anger has been rising among Arabs over U.S. support for Israel in its conflict with Palestinians and Washington's threat to wage war on Iraq.

Conversion is a divisive subject in the overwhelmingly Islamic Arab world. Leaving Islam or encouraging others to do so is considered a crime in some countries, although conversion and evangelism is not illegal in Lebanon.

Well, then I will help you.

Terrorists are killing people, those are the "bad" guy's.

The others are praying to their God, fasting and wearing silly hats, but not hurting anyone. They are doing nothing wrong.

There, see how easy it is?

So then, why do countries with Muslim governments have other religions practiced there?

Really?
Please give me the addresses of Christian churches in Syria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Yemen...

And then explain this:

It is Thanksgiving 1990. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are spending it in Saudi Arabia, invited by its rulers to protect the country -- not against the infidel, but against a fellow Arab Muslim, Saddam Hussein of Iraq. Having raped Kuwait, Iraqi forces were poised to storm Saudi Arabia, a country unable to defend itself.

U.S. President George Herbert Walker Bush arrived to share the Thanksgiving meal with the armed forces whose commander in chief he was. Upon arrival, the Saudi hosts informed him that the sight of a banquet connected in any way, shape or form with Christian traditions, giving thanks to God, was so hateful to Muslims that the president and his lot would have to repair to the high seas, far from the shores that would be soiled, defaced, desecrated by their act and presence.

Take your prozac and take your time. I been waiting years for an explanation.

As a woman, I find Islam to be the most repugnant, insulting school of thought (it isn't really a religion, in my mind) to ever come down the pipe regarding females and their role in this world. Any self respecting woman would reject this stupid, violent "religion" at every turn.

You go, girl!!

The same sort of absolute submission required by our Lord in order to enter the Kingdom of heaven? As revealed in the Book of Revelations?

Any nut who substitutes religious quotations for reasoning and thinking is simply that: a nut.

I have no use for any of them, regardles of which book they are using.

Annoying, isn't it?

That's right up there with shooting someone cuz he "dissed" you.

Pretty primitive behavior.

If I know Lamonte he's probably:

1) Pissed at them for killing people (including Muslims) in the WTC attack.

2) Praying about it.

Look, I just flatly refuse to declare wan on all of Islam because of the WTC.

If people here want to repeal the Bill of Right's and go hang my maintenance man, fine.. Do it.

But don't expect me to join in this lunacy.

There is a bunch of people here who wouldn't like this a bit if the tables were turned and some self defined Conservative, Christian or Jewish terrorists were effectively tainting the rest of us.

Remember Tim McVeigh and the way Clinton tried to paint us all for what he did? The abortion clinic bombers? The KKK? They try to hang that on us constantly.

I've been looking for this quote. It's from an article about a month ago titled "They Want To Destroy Us", I believe. Now I have the name, Hussein Massawi, which is what I was looking for. Thanks.

"We are not fighting so that you will offer us something, we are fighting to eliminate you."

-Hussein Massawi, a former leader of Hezbollah

So the fact that the majority of those living in the Islamic countries are good people is of no consequence. Unless they do something to condemn and to isolate the Muslim totalitarians and terrorists in their midst, history will judge them as it has all the good Germans during the Holocaust.

I'd like to add something to this, if I may...

While there are good people living in the US who are Muslims, there are also a large number of Muslims here who would like to kill us. We have no way to tell the difference between the two groups. Without the Muslims "cleaning house" on their own, we will eventually be forced to do it for them, simply for our own safety.

The most interesting thing about it is that the PLO was formed a few years BEFORE the 1967 so-called occupation of territories. So what were they trying to liberate before Gaza and the West Bank? One guess.

Blacks commit a disproportionately high percentage of crimes.

Shall we "clean house" on them also?

I mean, for our own safety of course.

Do you need to be pinged at every occurance where some loon declares that the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim?

Just because I believe that Ibrahim Hooper is a myopic, whiney troll* doesn't mean I believe he's the only myopic, whiny troll.

No need to guess, it's in their charter.

It's gonna be funny when there is a big wall blocking out of "their" territory.
