[history]
HONOLULU -- Linda Lingle had little time to dismantle 40 years of Democratic power in the Hawaii governor's office -- a quick 26 days from Election Day. On Monday, when she becomes Hawaii's first Republican governor since 1962, she will end a transition matched in brevity only by Alaska's. With the state reeling from the deftness with which she dispatched the heir to that Democratic legacy, Lingle, 49, has scrambled to assemble her administration, managing to appoint a few trusted advisers before her inauguration.

...And now perhaps the lovely State of Hawaii can begin its Economic Recovery in partnership with the businesses there that have been crying out for decades for government policies that are focused on empowering its economy...
...instead of drowning it.
Businesse like ...MATSON LINES.

Yes, it is "Morning in America" (or at least in Hawaii and Alaska, which have shaken off the rule of corrupt Democrats at last). Good news for those of us who work for a living, not so good for the bums and freeloaders.

We certainly haven't heard the press make very much of Republicans winning the governorships in so many long-time Democratic Party strongholds (e.g. Hawaii, Alabama, Georgia, Vermont, Massachusets, New York)...

Can't be too excited about this one after I found out "Republican" Linda Lingle agrees with the 'RATs on most issues and will probably continue buisness as usual. More interesting is that a REAL Republican managed to end 130+ years of Democrat machine rule in Georgia. Amazing when you consider they couldn't even get stop scum like Lester Maddox and Jimmy Carter.

"Compared with bygone days, when they were throwing off a Republican elite that fostered social inequity, Democrats are less rabidly partisan, said Pat Loui, president of the polling firm OmniTrak. Fewer people remember times of plantation oppression."
"Democrats, by contrast, look tired compared with the days when they transformed Hawaii, said Gregory Gaydos, associate professor of political science at Hawaii Pacific University. "They did a lot of good things, but as time went by, they ran out of steam."
