Biologists Blame Bread For Teenage Acne Eruptions

Biologists blame bread for teenage acne eruptions

New research suggests refined breads and cereals are more likely to cause acne than chocolate or fatty foods.

The study by biologists at Colorado State University holds highly refined starches responsible because they are easily digested.

It says eating them triggers the body to produce insulin and insulin-like growth factor (IFG-1) in higher quantities.

This can lead to a surplus of male hormones, which encourages the skin to produce sebum, the "greasy goop" that acne-promoting bacteria love.

IGF-1 also encourages skin cells called keratinocytes to proliferate, which are another acne hallmark.

According to New Scientist researchers in Australia are planning to test the US hypothesis by putting 60 teenage acne sufferers on low carbohydrate diets for three months.

Acne may not be the only problem caused by eating large quantities of highly refined starches.

Such diets have also been blamed for causing short-sightedness and contributing to the adult onset of diabetes.

Future Headline: Liberals Blame Their Political Misfortunes on Starch

Why not? They've blamed everything else... except themselves, of course...

HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPP! Everyone should take a tofu capsule 3 times a day, eschew all other forms of dietary intake, puke three times a day, and call me in the morning.

Anyone who knows modern teens knows they don't eat a heck of a lot of bread - but candy and soda pop are rich sources of carbs for them.

This could appear the be another postive benefit from eating a more "atkins-like diet" than the FDA's "food triangle" diet.

Personally, I've noticed my complexion is better now that I've removed nearly all refined flours/sugars from my diet.

Just my $.02

Puking is good... helps clean out the plumbing.

De-foliating ones face by washing it deters acne.

Bread is good in moderation.

Not interested (especially) in my complexion, just my health. Whole grains only when possible, avoid any food in which sugar is the main ingredient, and limit foods with any added sugar to a minimum. All with some degree of moderation, of course, as required by current American lifestyle.

Your phone's busy. I'll try again tomorrow. (Maybe you should get DSL. Then you can FReep without tying up the line.) ;-)

Wrong. Eggs & bacon, filet mignon, cheese and leafy green vegetables. Tofu only is you like it (i like it fried in butter)

have lost 10k (e.g.- 22 pounds) the last 2 months on that type of fare and feel great, no hunger at all!
