Safe Schools For All?
Citizen magazine ^ | DECEMBER 2002 | Candi Cushman

These students say they're persecuted under pro-gay pressure.

When touting pro-gay curriculum under the banner of "safe schools for all," homosexual activists typically rely on the testimony of gay and lesbian students to put critics on the defensive.

But Citizen has talked to the students no one else is listening to — those who say "safe schools" are a very intimidating place for people of faith.

Freshmen at California’s Arcata High School, for instance, say they were singled out because of their religion during a mandatory health class last December.

When they arrived in class that day, they discovered teenage presenters trained by Planned Parenthood who said they were teaching tolerance. Calling it an icebreaker, the presenters instructed students to form a circle and step in the middle when questions asked applied to them. The interrogation quickly moved from innocuous queries about food preferences to dicier subjects.

"Near the end, they said, ‘Step out, if your religion is against or thinks badly about people who are homosexual,’ " said one student who feared continued harassment and did not want her name published. "At first I didn’t want to step out because I didn’t think very many people would. But I did anyway . . . and everybody was looking at me.

"It made me feel totally separated out and feel wrong for what I believed."

Afterward, she said, classmates questioned her beliefs and asked whether she liked television shows with gay characters — a subtle form of peer pressure that was probably exactly what the presenters intended.

"It’s becoming clear that tolerance is not the goal [of gay-rights education] but rather the obligatory acceptance of homosexuality," said Robert H. Knight, director of Concerned Women for America’s Culture and Family Institute.

"But I don’t think enough parents see the threat this poses to the health and safety of their children. The severe consequences of homosexual experimentation are kept hidden and the supposed benefits of tolerating and even celebrating such behavior are all that anyone hears."

Standing on Truth

The good news is some Christian students are still holding out the truth in the midst of the moral confusion plaguing public schools.

There’s 17-year-old Laura Puccinelli of Sacramento, Calif., for instance, who stood up in her Sheldon High School psychology class last year and confronted the teacher about a required reading assignment: a book called "Letters from the Closet," featuring fictional letters from a young priest struggling with homosexuality.

When Laura began studying the book, she was shocked to read that "two same-sex relationships — David & Jonathan and Ruth & Naomi — were blessed in God’s eyes!"

Upset that in the same district (Elk Grove Unified) where the words "under God" were temporarily stricken from the Pledge of Allegiance, students were now forced to read curricula that misquoted the Bible, Laura decided she couldn’t stay silent:

"I raised my hand and said, ‘I have a different viewpoint. I was offended by the book.’ . . . I brought up my religion and how the books went against everything I believe." To her surprise, other students supported her.

‘You’ve Just Committed a Hate Crime’

Christian students at Novato High School also are fighting for their right to have a different view. Their battle began last May during a week-long celebration of homosexuality sponsored by the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club. School hallways were plastered with rainbow streamers and posters listing supposedly homosexual historical figures including Eleanor Roosevelt and Leonardo da Vinci.

"They covered the whole school," said Ben Buckley, a 16-year-old junior. "They put posters everywhere . . . and they put underneath every single poster a sign that said, ‘You’ve just committed a hate crime,’ so if anyone tore them down that would be there.

"They also had gatherings," he said. "They’re like, ‘Yeah, here’s free candy [if you] come down to the lecture hall and play our Queer Jeopardy."

"It’s frustrating because no other club is doing the same thing they are," said 17-year-old Novato junior Julia Carey. "They are the only club I know of that has their own week. . . . It’s like they are trying to make us actually believe and accept their lifestyle."

A fellow student, 15-year-old David Coyle, said he was censored during GSA week. "I wanted to put up some Christian poetry I wrote," he said. "And my teacher was like, ‘Well, I don’t think that’s allowed in the school since it’s religious,’ and I was thinking, ‘Well, then how come you’re allowing homosexual things? That’s almost like a religion.’

"It’s the same thing in the sense that you have to believe what you’re doing and live it out."

Aggravated after a week of being force-fed a political agenda, David and other students posted "Straight Pride" posters next to gay-celebration banners — but they didn’t see much evidence of tolerance. "A lot of the principals and teachers crumpled them up if they saw them around," he said. "They’d take them from us."

Still, Christian students feel forced into taking a stand, David said, "because if nobody speaks against this then everybody will just accept it."

Recommended Reading for Teenagers

The well-known and respected national organization "Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays" (P-FLAG) serves as a support group for parents seeking guidance for their homosexual children. P-FLAG is recommended as a resource group by the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Justice in its upcoming manual, "Preventing Youth Hate Crime." Many schools, community agencies, and even nationally syndicated newspaper columnists refer families to it. P-FLAG has affiliates in all 50 states, with about 70,000 families among its membership.

A look at some of P-FLAG's literature and recommended books, however, reveals an approach to child guidance which is consistently both sexually and socially radical. First-person stories aimed at teens tell in pornographic detail of the delight of a young girl's sexual seduction by her lesbian teacher; of gay relationships between teenage boys and much older men; and of the precise how-to's of masturbation. Teenagers are specifically encouraged to use only their feelings as a guide to sexual behavior; to be their own judge of what is right and wrong; and to "have fun" experimenting. If a sexual behavior feels good, the logic says, it will tell them "who they are." Teenagers are encouraged to see religious traditionalists as mean-spirited and hypocritical, while at the same time, to see gay consciousness as "sacred." Were similar books recommended by parenting groups for "straight" teenagers, they would be considered violations of community standards of decency.

Planned Parenthood Encourages Valuing of Homosexuality

On its website Teen Wire (www.teenwire.org), Planned Parenthood encourages teenagers to circumvent the authority of their parents in sexual matters. It also bestows its approval on a homosexual orientation ("It's a fine thing"), as well as a gay lifestyle. They state:

"Frankly, a web page can't decide for you if you're ready [for sex] or not. Neither can your best friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, parent, brother, counselor, rabbi--well, you get the idea. The only person who can know when the time's right is you."
"The truth is this: if you're lesbian, gay, straight, or bisexual, that's what you are, and it's a fine thing. Don't sweat it, accept it, because no amount of denial is going to change what makes you hot."

obligatory acceptance of homosexuality,"

A Captive Audience

Finally, the question begging to be asked in this is: Should we teach about homosexuality at all? For many people of faith, issues related to sexuality, including homosexuality, have no place in school. Yet, ignoring the issue denies the reality around us. Given the dramatic cultural changes related to homosexuality, schools find themselves almost compelled to address it.

While activists believe kindergartners should learn about homosexuality (Kitlowski, 2001), integrating gay themes into elementary curricula serves no purpose other than advocacy. However, if the issue is to be addressed in school, middle and high school teachers can do so by addressing the psycho-sociological contributing factors, the physiological, psychological, and emotional implications of homosexuality, and the alternative--heterosexuality. At the very least, if schools desire to teach about homosexuality and include pro-gay teaching, a balanced perspective ought to be addressed.

From Tolerance to Affirmation

In summary:

  1. Once the gay and lesbian agenda establishes itself in a district, that agenda starts to expand. It is typically first introduced under the philosophy of "making schools safe."
  2. Gay and lesbian activists choose words and phrases which make their agenda sound innocuous. Teachers are taught to respect diversity, but this respect is used by the activists to further a larger agenda. Teachers who oppose the group are labeled intolerant and warned of the fear and bigotry they are spreading among their students.
  3. There is covert spreading of rainbow symbols throughout the school. The symbols are said to stand for the broader issue of respect for diversity.
  4. Information about the group is quietly passed to students; soon the whole school is aware that a "pro-gay" group exists among the teachers.
  5. Since the group is not recognized by the school, it is impossible for parents to influence it, or ask for its closure.
  6. Although not official, the group gains credibility through each successive mailing, meeting, and forum.

"But I don't think enough parents see the threat this poses to the health and safety of their children. The severe consequences of homosexual experimentation are kept hidden and the supposed benefits of tolerating and even celebrating such behavior are all that anyone hears."

AFA Issues: Homosexual Agenda - discourage homosexual behaviorSociety imposes significant social and legal restrictions on -- and spends millions of dollars urging Americans, particularly children, to avoid -- life-threatening behavioral choices such as smoking, drug abuse, and drunk driving.

This rational, logical, common sense commitment to protecting our children from life-threatening activity is irrationally discarded, however, concerning the deadly practice of homosexual behavior. With the ready compliance of negligently pandering, enabling politicians and bureaucrats -- particularly in public schools -- homosexual activists are dead set on teaching our children "it's O.K. to be gay."
Oxford University's International Journal of Epidemiology reports: "Life expectancy at age 20 years for gay and bisexual men is 8 to 20 years less than for all men. If the same pattern of mortality continues, we estimate that nearly half of gay and bisexual men currently aged 20 will not reach their 65th birthday."
Judging by the number of years at risk, homosexual activity is up to three times deadlier than smoking.
Society irrationally nonetheless condemns and restricts the lesser threat, while contemplating laws to protect and force acceptance of the greater. The Boy Scouts are viciously attacked for daring to stand firm to protect youngsters from exposure to such deadly behavior. Paid homosexual activists are invited into our classrooms -- as young as first grade, one Detroit activist boasts - to offer our kids an early death by teaching them "How to be Gay."

The plague abettors Through 20 years of political correctness and political pressure, the gay establishment has caused AIDS to spread like wildfire.

Medical Consequences of What Homosexuals Do

FECAL SEX About 80% of gays (see Table) admit to licking and/or inserting their tongues into the anus of partners and thus ingesting medically significant amounts of feces. Those who eat or wallow in it are probably at even greater risk. In the diary study,5 70% of the gays had engaged in this activity--half regularly over 6 months. Result? --the "annual incidence of hepatitis A in...homosexual men was 22 percent, whereas no heterosexual men acquired hepatitis A." In 1992,26 it was noted that the proportion of London gays engaging in oral/anal sex had not declined since 1984.

While the body has defenses against fecal germs, exposure to the fecal discharge of dozens of strangers each year is extremely unhealthy. Ingestion of human waste is the major route of contracting hepatitis A and the enteric parasites collectively known as the Gay Bowel Syndrome. Consumption of feces has also been implicated in the transmission of typhoid fever,9 herpes, and cancer.27 About 10% of gays have eaten or played with [e.g., enemas, wallowing in feces]. The San Francisco Department of Public Health saw 75,000 patients per year, of whom 70 to 80 per cent are homosexual men....An average of 10 per cent of all patients and asymptomatic contacts reported...because of positive fecal samples or cultures for amoeba, giardia, and shigella infections were employed as food handlers in public establishments; almost 5 per cent of those with hepatitis A were similarly employed."10 In 1976, a rare airborne scarlet fever broke out among gays and just missed sweeping through San Francisco.10 The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported that 29% of the hepatitis A cases in Denver, 66% in New York, 50% in San Francisco, 56% in Toronto, 42% in Montreal and 26% in Melbourne in the first six months of 1991 were among gays.11 A 1982 study "suggested that some transmission from the homosexual group to the general population may have occurred."12

Violence and Homosexuality

A substantial minority of homosexuals (between 22% (5) to 37% (6,7) ) indulge in painful or violent sex (e.g., bondage and discipline [B/D], where the partner is physically restrained and mildly tortured, or sadomasochism [S/M], where partners are tortured or hurt during sex). Even in the 1940s, psychiatrist David Abrahamsen (8) noted, "It is well known that homosexual inclinations may be accompanied by sadistic or masochistic tendencies.... These perversions play a great part in many sexual offenses and in many cases of murder." In a national survey of random samples of homosexuals and heterosexuals, (7) 32% of those males who called themselves homosexual or bisexual versus 5% of heterosexual males reported having engaged in sadomasochism; 17% of lesbians versus 4% of heterosexual women also admitted to S/M. Likewise, gays and lesbians were about four times more apt to engage in bondage than were heterosexuals.

The top six U.S. male serial killers were all gay:

• Donald Harvey claimed 37 victims in Kentucky;

• John Wayne Gacy raped and killed 33 boys in Chicago, burying them under his house and in his yard;

• Patrick Kearney accounted for 32, cutting his victims into small pieces after sex and leaving them in trash bags along the Los Angeles freeways;

• Bruce Davis molested and killed 27 young men and boys in Illinois;

• A gay sex-murder-torture ring (Corll-Henley-Brooks) sent 27 Texas men and boys to their grave; and

• Juan Corona was convicted of murdering 25 migrant workers (he "made love" with their corpses).

When Laura began studying the book, she was shocked to read that "two same-sex relationships - David & Jonathan and Ruth & Naomi - were blessed in God's eyes!"

"I raised my hand and said, 'I have a different viewpoint. I was offended by the book.' . . . I brought up my religion and how the books went against everything I believe." To her surprise, other students supported her.

Responding to Pro-Gay Theology

Explaining the Argument for Design and Purpose
"We need to live a certain way because we are designed to live that way," he explains. "Everything in us has a purpose: everything is for something. At some level this is plain even to children, though of course they do not have words to express it.

When human design and purpose is thwarted, we can expect to see a higher level of emotional and physical problems. Dr. Budziszewski points out some of those problems--particularly, widespread promiscuity (even in "committed" gay relationships) and the bodily damage that is the byproduct of sexual practices that are incompatible with one's anatomy. "It's hard to see what is loving," Dr. Budziszewki notes, "about sexual acts that cause tearing, stretching, bleeding, choking, death, disease and pain."

Hate crimes Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle tried last week to quash debate on Sen. Ted Kennedy's proposed federal "hate crimes" bill. The gambit perfectly illustrated what these men are trying to do to the whole country — shut down discussion about homosexuality. The bill is above all a sop to an increasingly pampered special-interest group: homosexual activists.

It's like they are trying to make us actually believe and accept their lifestyle."

What these kids have to do is ask their parents to remove them from these schools. The homosexual agenda is too entrenched in the public schools to turn back now. The only thing that is going to put a stop to homosexual indoctrination of students is a mass exodus from the public schools that encourage homosexuality.

If they are religious, perhaps they could ask their churches to start church schools for them.

Very interesting post. If I remember my numbers correctly, homosexuality as a behavioral risk factor reduces average life expectancy by something like 22 years. Smoking reduces it by 1(?) year.

Yet compare the ubiquitous anti-smoking propaganda to the equally ubiquitous pro-homosexuality propaganda.

Does not compute.

" students say they're persecuted under pro-gay pressure. "

They're not diverse enough. They need some muslims. Then, once they lean on the islamic boys to start playing with puds, all that persecution will disappear.

Smoking reduces it by 1(?) year.
I missed excerpting this line in the above link:

AFA Issues: Homosexual Agenda - discourage homosexual behavior The N.E. Journal of Medicine reports that men who smoke risk cutting 7.3 years off their lives.

Ubiquitous - To say the least.

Good site. In a way, it's good that these kids are going through this because they know that their education is a travesty. They probably won't want the same for their kids.

It's too late for the parents -- they bought into public education lock, stock, and barrel. They probably don't believe or know half of what's going on in their kids' public school, but the kids who are going through it do know what is happening and how they are being poorly educated academically as well as being manipulated socially.

In the long run, that might not bode well for the future of public education.

At the risk of suggesting unpopular ideas, what is so terrible about Christian youths being put under pressure for having unpopular views? Where did Christ or any of his apostles tell Christians that their views would be popular with the world?

Quite the opposite, as I recall. Perhaps a better approach would be to teach Christian youths that they should be proud to be unpopular for being moral.

They should express their views and let the school authorities know exactly how they feel. If one student does it, many more might follow.

Sometimes you have to walk away from a bad situtation, but then of course you would let the school officials know exactly why you are leaving. School officials would rather students stay put so they can get state aid for their attendance. As far as I'm concerned, all the power is in the hands of the parents and students if they choose to use it, not in the hands of a minority who feel they have to push their agenda on everyone.
