[history]
When Albert Arnold Gore told the New York Observer's Josh Benson that conservative newspapers and broadcast outlets, supposedly passing off Republican talking points as "news," represent a media "fifth column," he declared war.
But his declamation, an addlepated harangue in every sense, wasn't against conservative media. No, it was against America itself. For the ideas that Mr. Gore rails against are the very republican (small "r") ideals on which this country was founded.

Gore and his poputchiks indeed have declared war on America and its ideals; Americans should respond accordingly.

I agree with the thesis here. I think Gore and Clinton don't believe there should be two or more parties in America and they especially don't want a diverse press unbeholden to them.

Gore declares war
on America What's another war? The republicans declared war on America 30 years ago via the war on drugs.

As I have stated so often on FR: if our nation's citizens ever rise in righteous rebellion against a tyrannical government, we would be wise to remember the role the mainstream media played in establishing that tyranny.

And these republican ideals so critical to this nation's birth and continuing good health are, in Gore's mind, un-American, traitorous, Communistic and Nazi-like?
It sounds to me as if Al Gore got a hold of some of those Marxist talking points on which his liberal media buddies so heavily rely. In the interests of historical accuracy, there's your real "fifth column." Me too

Posted before, but perhaps one of my better efforts...
There has been a major sea change in the way Americans get their news. This is what has the Dems and the so called main stream media in a snit.
Fox News is only a part of the equation. Conservative talk shows offer a radio voice to the conservative message that has never existed.
The third and most important is the growth of web sites like Free Republic. For the first time in history, as soon a Dem utters a "statement", literally thousands of opposition researchers spring into action. Eventually the research hits the conservative air waves and gets into the public discourse. Grass roots organizations can communicate in ways never before seen, sharing information and moral support. Whatever is needed.
The mid-term election results were a testimony to the impact of the changing dynmaics of news research and reporting. Citizen reporters, citizen research made the difference.
The last dynamic is probably what scares the Dems the most. The last thing they want is an informed electorate.
Problem is for them, it's here and it is not going away.

poputchiksIf he wants to use a Russian word correctly, it should be poputchiki , ie: "fellow travellers".

How disappointed you must be that no one has been sucked into your troll trap yet on this thread.
It won't be long before everyone here knows that you are a thread disruptor. Then, I suspect, you will get more and more rude, until there is no freeper by that name.
Hit the road, pal.

Thanks Fintan, that means a lot coming from you.
That reminds me, I need to clean up my bookmarks. I haven't looked at them for ages.
