What a great story, I can truly understand how the loss of the WTC would have that kind of affect on you.
Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
God Bless you for your Service LC.

All who saw the WTC up close and personal carry a piece of the towers in their hearts for all time. It's still right here, no one can take it away from us.
How we move forward to save the world will determine if we honor the Towers or allow the Towers to disappear.
Many of us share your understanding of what the Towers meant to Americans and the rest of the world too.

Two things should memorialize the Trade Center attacks: one, a newer, bigger, better, shinier, even more triumphant Trade Center. And two, a lot of crumbled, smoking craters where Terror used to dwell....
I agree....Bttt

I thought this deserved a thread of its ownYou were right. It's wonderful. Thank you.

Thank you all for your words of praise. I'm not so macho that I can't say that a lump has come into my throat right now from reading this thread.
Your responses themselves are as inspirational to me as anything I could have scribbled.
After the war, and after the WTC is rebuilt, better, prouder, and taller than before, I've got the first round at the bar on the top floor. See you all there!

You are very welcome.
My cousin Ricky died when his Huey was shot down. He was a gunner. They were going in to rescue some GI's that were pinned down. At least he died a Hero.
He also stood as my Godfather.
To this day, his mother (my aunt) goes to his grave each year on his birthday, and cries.

Your balloon itself could raise a lump in the throat of a dead man, Abner.

"Black Tuesday cemented what your father gave to you. " You are so right...it was like the tempering fire of a sword-forge.
Up until that day, I had been considering leaving the Navy when my enlistment was up. Today, I couldn't dream of it.

"Two things should memorialize the Trade Center attacks: one, a newer, bigger, better, shinier, even more triumphant Trade Center. And two, a lot of crumbled, smoking craters where Terror used to dwell." I'll drink to that!
May we one day clink glasses at the victory party!

The day we were there was sunny and cold...the wind was blowing so fast, they wouldn't let anyone out on the observation deck.
Not one cloud obscured the brilliant blue sky, or the crystal-clear day. I could see, literally, all the way to White Plains.
I remember being thrilled to feel the Tower sway gently under my feet. I thought,"this is so COOL!".

Taking the express elevator up was like riding in a rocket.
And you could definitely feel the building sway up there. It was cool, if a little unsettling. Once I was informed that the building HAD to sway and had been designed to do that, I wasn't nervous anymore.

It's a little outside of y'all's area of interest, but most here seem to think it's good. Hope you all enjoy it!
