What is sticky about this is Mississippi has a DEMOCRAT governor.

If Lott throws a hissy fit and RESIGNS altogether, we're back to 50-50. (McCain - Snowe- Chaffee)

Trent Lott did to himself what most Freepers have been wanting him to do for years? (that is step down for Nickels or Brownback)

There are plenty of problems in our society. FR documents them all the time. And we are all aware of them. As should Lott be aware of them. Seems he's not very aware. He is the leader of a group of 100 people who are near the very top of the world's most powerful government. He's not aware of press coverage? He's not aware of enemies lying in wait all the time. The guy is a moron, a dolt, an imbecile, and a great embarrassment. The fact that he is a Bush-supporter is a big mitigating factor, and the reason I hope and pray he stays in the Senate. But in a leadership role? I don't think so.

Tom DeLay, the HAMMER, should take over the GOP Senate and yes, Lott should step aside.

It is extremely clear to me that the very best senator today is Tennessee's, Senator Bill Frist, MD. He is bright, organized, embued with excellent organization and leadership skills.

He's principled.

He led the campaign to elect senators, also. He deserves the reward, but he deserves it more cause he just might be the most capable Republican senator in quite a while.

I'm not a Tennessean

Isn't Delay in the House of Reps? I thought he was, but I'm unsure enough to ask.

Don Nickles is the way to go! He'd be an amazing Majority Leader!

Nickles for Majority Leader

The GOP should take its lead from Tom Daschle's instinctive reaction of generosity.

Last week Lott was merely Daschle's slow-witted and spineless adversary. Today he is (self-anointed) racist conservative white male incarnate.

Why in the world would Bush and the GOP want Lott to stay?

Lott is spineless and clueless. He knows nothing about leadership...

Because Lott allowed the mutant to remain in office, it is clear he puts himself ahead of the country, the people, the Constitution.

And now he has made himself the racist poster boy for the Democrats; they will be able to whip him out at will.

If he is allowed to remain in a leadership position, the entire Republican party--including Bush--will be tarred with the same racist brush...

Lott must go.

1 vote for Kaye Bailey Hutchinson. Maybe we need a woman on top of the pile in the Senate for a change.

This whole things smacks of being simply another stupid liberal witch hunt, but with conservatives who can't stand Lott joining in as this being the opportunity to finally move him aside.

I can't stand Lott, and hope like crazy that he will somehow not be Majority Leader, because he's a demonstrated incompetant boob. But by joining liberal scumbags in finding something racist in what he says is just wrong. Strom's version of "state's rights" would have prevented Roe v. Wade, the affirmative action decisions, and a whole host of other liberal scumbag judicial activism.

Maybe it would have been more helpful for Lott to have clearly distinguished what he was saying, that he was against the racist policies but for the overall theme, although it's unfortunate that we keep having to say "I have black friends" everytime this issue comes up. But then again, that is why Lott is a bozo and unfit to lead.

I in no way see how someone in 1980 or today can be equated as being a supporter of segregation and Jim Crow just because they say they're for state's rights, and we as conservatives are being foolish to give in to it (again).

If Lott steps aside over something as insignificant as this, then I hope he leaves the Senate altogether. May as well. He'll just go from a racist Majority Leader to a racist Senator from Mississippi, and will be dogged for the remainder of his time in the Senate.

Playing into the hands of race pimps feeds the beast. They'll beat their chests and paint a target on the next Republican to not pay tribute.

It's absolutely sickening to watch this charade unfold and to have Free Republic in league with the race baiters.

Free Republic wants its pound of flesh from impeachment. Well, you may get it, but you'll be just a Lincoln-Chaffee-hissy-fit away from a Democrat Majority, once again.

Here it is in two:
  1. Lott DEFINITELY should step aside...
  2. ...but not for this!
Lott should step aside because he is a weenie, unprepared to lead in such trying times. Then but a Real Man in, someone who can take the hits and give back double, someone who can call hard shots and bring his team in line behind them. Not some mush-mouthed momma's boy who likes to "make nice" more than anything in the whole wide world.

Dan

If KKK Byrd can 'rehab' his image over time on the other side of the aisle, I see no reason why Trent cannot do the same thing.

Byrd is a Democrat. There are different rules for Democrats.

In other words, our society has been so clintonized that words that offend can get you canned and actions that are truely offensive,to the Constitution, the memory of the Founders, and everyone who ever fought for this great nation are overlooked.Scary.Where and when does it end?

Tom DeLay is in the House.

J.C. Watts is no longer in the House.

Civics lessons are in order.
