I can't believe this story is still going. The double standard here is absolutely breathtaking. And the Republicans are scared? What a bunch of wimps. Why doesn't Lott just get up there and say, "hey, I didn't say anything about segregation and if you guys are trying to infer that, then you are the ones saying it, not me. You are making a mountain out of a molehill here. I was just trying to saying something nice to a 100 year old man. Sheesh." He won't and he'll step aside and the press and the true racists win again. Pathetic.

If Lott steps aside over something as insignificant as this, then I hope he leaves the Senate altogether. May as well. He'll just go from a racist Majority Leader to a racist Senator from Mississippi, and will be dogged for the remainder of his time in the Senate.

Playing into the hands of race pimps feeds the beast. They'll beat their chests and paint a target on the next Republican to not pay tribute.

It's absolutely sickening to watch this charade unfold and to have Free Republic in league with the race baiters.

Free Republic wants its pound of flesh from impeachment. Well, you may get it, but you'll be just a Lincoln-Chaffee-hissy-fit away from a Democrat Majority, once again.

So? Lott still has to go.

The problem with double standards is not that ours are higher, it's that the Democrats' are lower. The solution is not to become as protective of the stupidity of ours, it's to be more aggressive against the stupidity of theirs.

We can only blame the press so much in this. Who spoke out forcefully against Byrd's white n***** comments?

Once again the media is pulling our chain and we are going willingly. What a shame.

While I wish Lott were not majority leader, if Republicans succeed at getting rid of Lott now, they will be doing exactly what we have all criticized Lott for doing: giving in when the heat gets turned up.

He misspoke. He apologized. Get over it.

On racial issues, Republicans have to be like Caesar's wife. Dems can say and do almost anything (eg Robert Byrd) but we cannot. Of course there's a double standard. Get used to it.

I can't say that I mind losing Lott as majority leader. This is as good a reason as any to let him go.

I agree with you... and by reading the reactions of the Republicans everywhere... now I know that Christians aren't they only ones who shoot their wounded.

bttt

Until Republicans and conservative grow some...courage, this crap will never stop. All it takes to stop a bully is to stand up to them. They'll back off pretty quick. Unfortunately conservatives run for cover at the first hint of racial controversy.

I'm sick of it. I'm tired of trying to be nice to blacks only to have them glare at me. Tired of holding doors for black people only to have them glare at me suspiciously. I'm tired of this whole race oriented dialagoue.

The only people keeping racism alive is the blacks. I think most whites took to heart some of the "can't we just all get along" theme that was hammered throughtout the 80's. I've actually gotten to the point of backlash. I'm so so so sick of the one-way street in regards to innocuous remarks.
