I liked my informal poll last weekend better, where respondents got to answer yes or no on each question.

The results were (with 137 respondents):

The borders of the US should be carefully monitored to eliminate illegal entry into the country as much as possible

Yes-97.8%; No-1.5%

------

Those who are here illegally should be sent home

Yes-92.0%; No-3.0%; Depends/Qualified-3.6%

--------

Legal Entry into the country should be severely curtailed or eliminated

Yes-79.4%; No-18.4%; Depends/Qualified-1.5%

-------------

None of the above. (or) We should support our elected officials' policies and goals with regard to the borders

Yes-1.5%; No-94.9%

I've never done a link, but I'll try it (maybe madfly or someone else can help me here). The poll on FR has the problems of most polls...it splinters the overwhelming support for fixing the border situation. When people didn't have to choose an option, it was clear that the only place there was any support for the status quo is that a significant percentage (but nothing close to a majority) support some form of legal immigration. Also, the succcinct comments of the respondents (some who are not regular posters) were very interesting.

I tend to agree it is poorly worded ,not clearly defining legal and illegal..but what I do know if we are ever to control immigration in this country again everything must STOP ...and a new policy developed with a monitoring and enforcement plan in place before ANYONE is allowed to immigrate again
