Girl, 14, flies to Turkey to wed barman
Telegraph ^ | December 13, 2002 | Nicola Woolcock

Interpol was searching last night for a British schoolgirl who has flown to Turkey and married a barman she met on holiday.

Rachel Lloyd, 14, is believed to have forged a passport to travel to the Marmaris resort where she met 24-year-old Mehmet Ocack in May. He is believed to have another wife and a young son.

Since arriving in Turkey, Rachel has phoned her family in Wrexham twice to tell them she is safe. Robert Lloyd, her father, who is flying to the country to help search for his daughter, said: "She rang her sister and told her she is married. I feel numb."

The affair is similar to that of Sarah Cook, from Braintree, Essex, who married a Turkish waiter at the age of 13 and gave birth to his son.

She was later made a ward of court and her marriage declared void in Britain and Turkey. The age of consent for marriage in Turkey is 15 for women and 17 for men.

Schoolgirl bride has waiter's baby
By Carole Cadwalladr

SARAH COOK, the 13-year-old schoolgirl who ran away to Turkey to marry a waiter after a holiday romance, last night gave birth to a 7lb boy.

She immediately telephoned her 18-year-old boyfriend, Musanin Komeagac, who is due to appear in a Turkish court today charged with statutory rape. Earlier this year, Sarah, who had her 14th birthday last month, said she would call the baby Mohammed if it was a boy.

She was made a ward of court in February when a High Court judge decreed she must return to Britain and imposed tight reporting restrictions on the whole family. But a statement was issued yesterday with the approval of the president of the family division of the High Court.

It said: "Sarah and her baby are both in good health and Sarah was able to speak to her baby's father, Musanin Komeagac, after the birth. There are no immediate plans for Musanin to visit his son."

Musanin was charged after the couple married in an Islamic wedding ceremony not recognised under Turkish law. His trial was adjourned until today. If convicted, he could face up to 10 months' imprisonment.

The waiter proposed to Sarah after a three-day romance in the holiday resort of Alanya when Sarah was just 12. Her parents, Jackie, 37, and Adrian, 42, of Braintree, Essex, gave her their permission to go to Turkey and become his wife.

Last night, her uncle, Peter Cook, said he had dropped all contact with the family. He said of the baby: "It's just another mouth the taxpayer has got to feed. The social services just slapped their wrists and let them get on with it. It's a fine 14th birthday present for her."

If the marriage is legal( doubtful) then I think the stat rape laws is null and void. If the parent don't wish to prosecute then the DA( I think in the UK DAs are called the Queens Advocate) won't go for it either.

Ten months in a Turkish prison doesn't sound like fun.

But then, like his hero mohammed, this guy is a pedophile and may like that sort of stuff. Perversions normally travel in groups

God Save America (Please)

The marriage is not legal. You can't get married at 14 in Turkey unless the girl's age was stated higher than that in her forged passport. They checked and found no record of such a marriage by the way. The guy's been arrested today.

Why worry if you don't have to pay for your own kids. Sheesh.

Why are Kurds made Turks in the foreign press when they do something wrong? By the way, Britain has serious social problems it has to address. It is not a country I would like to raise a daughter in.

Yup.

Ever heard of "innocent until proven guilty"?

Clarke's pedophilia charges were dropped becase there was no evidence to support them.

"Ignorant jackass," perhaps?

BTW, the age of consent in Japan is 13, for what it's worth in this dreadful conversation.

said she would call the baby Mohammed if it was a boy.

This is what diversity training has done to our children, it's not about respecting other cultures, all they do is bash whitey and Europeans, it's taught an entire generation of children to hate themselves and their own culture. It's a form of child abuse.

Amazing. I hope they don't have any other children they are supposed to be responsible for.

Last night, her uncle, Peter Cook, said he had dropped all contact with the family. He said of the baby: "It's just another mouth the taxpayer has got to feed. The social services just slapped their wrists and let them get on with it. It's a fine 14th birthday present for her."

At least the uncle understands.

No, I don't think I could.

In fact, I've given up discussing islam here, because of the mindless bigotry of the moslems='moon-god pedophile worshipper' types.
