I have concerns over reports like this, having been a cop for over 14 years and seeing the potential abuse of such policies.
Well, that explains many things about you.
Don't come crying to me, just beat the hell out of your kid.
A former cop recommending you beat your child! Talk about hypocrisy! Call CPS, someone is beating their kid!
You want their possessions and their kid taken!

"Yep. And I have never seen a defender of asset forefiture laws explain why this is just - that is, a person never charged or convicted not getting property back. "

That would be because their is no argument to justify such actions on the part of the government.

So if someone gets busted for (example) trafficking 100 keys of heroine using a boat or car, they Govt should pay for storage of the vehicles until he/she/they are out of prison?

In the county I live in, just this very week, the police seized $235,000 from someone and the article said they haven't even decided if they are going to charge the person with anything.

Thats's okay. Just don't give off any decipherable signals in the 1 to 1.5 gigahertz region, please!

There are bigger issues of unconstituitonal liberties and freedoms of OURS being dissed.

What 'bigger issue' and what exactly are 'unconstitutional liberties?' and why do you think the property of innocent people being confiscated for the enrichment of government goons is not serious?

The vehicles should be confiscated for being used in the commission of a felony and auctioned off/sold and the money donated or put back into the area of where the perp was destroying lives. But hey, I like people, so what do I know? Let these animals run wild killing people. It's the "free" thing to do.

So, in you example, if it turns out the accusation was false, or the evidence was planted, do you believe the police get to keep the loot. That's the way it works now.

This puts the law in a tight spot. They may have to cough up all the illgotten spoils. Can a sheriff's office go bankrupt?

Maybe the sheriff can sue his lawyer for malpractice!! Now we're getting somewhere.......

The illustrious senator from Oregon, Ron Wyden, was part of the force behind instituting this law out here in Oregon before he became senator. A stranger can use your phone for a drug call without your knowledge and it can result you losing your home.

'Course, we shouldn't complain. In Loozianna, the cops assume that if you have any cash on you, you are involved with drugs and they steal the money and use it for vacation trips. There have been a couple of TV documentaries about it.

No, the more unreasonable someone is, the more it wakes up the rest that haven't thought about it much.

Sure, but I'm very careful to know who that person is.

Oh, I forgot that libertarians are opposed to the use of "force," especially regarding their own children who grow up to be society-destroying dopeheads.
