For an a grunt's eye view of Waco and Ruby Ridge, read "Cold Zero, Memoirs of an FBI Sniper," by Chris Whitcomb. Much of it deals with those two incidents.

There's probably a lot you would disagree with, but Whitcomb says has a perspective worth at least considering...and his credentials would stand FR scrutiny, I think. Before the joining the FBI, he was a speechwriter for a Republican Congressman, and was an NRA member and supporter of the 2nd Amendment. (Although I infer from the book that he's no longer in the NRA...he felt a bit betrayed by some of the rhetoric coming from the RKBA movement aftermath of Waco/RR).
