The Dixiecrat Platform
The Smoking Gun ^ | August 14, 1948 | The States Rights Democratic Party

Just so people here understand that Thurmond's run for the White House had nothing to do with lowering taxes or reducing government spending.

You don't have to look for hidden meanings. All you have to do is compare what he said to the Dixiecrat platform. This is almost as bad as Clinton's 'is is' comments.

Wrong. Trent Lott was 6 or 7 years old in 1948. He was trying to make an old man happy on his 100th birthday. I doubt the dixiecrats even crossed his mind while he was paying homage to Strom. Nice try at demonizing, but I don't buy it.

I checked out the Dixiecrat platform. Section 3 seems to be a rejection of Truman's demand that "subversives" in the Army be identified and put on a "list".

He issued that order in 1947.

In retrospect over 54 years it makes the Dixiecrats look like they were in league with the Commies, doesn't it?

At the same time, when comparing those party platforms, we should never forget that the Democrats ended up nominating an active, practicing racist who had actually taken actions that resulted in the deaths of millions of people who were of a race he simply didn't approve of.

So, whose hands are clean in this?

You might want to keep that bad boy out of your bedroom, eh?!

Don't be inviting him in or anything; make sure the Missus understands that too!

I never said the DEMS hands were clean. I have not posted anything saying anyone hands are clean. A question for you, why doesn't the GOP/RNC point out what the DEMs thought back then?

That would not work if he and his kind were in power. They want the right to check peoples home for compliance. And I wish I was kidding, but I am serious.

Really, it is past time for OUR party, the true Republican Party, the Grand Old Party of Abraham Lincoln, to give up its latter day Confederate wing.

Sir, that may be the last conservative stronghold for the GOP.

Could it be that Lott had a few too many drinks at the party?

What brain? If he had a brain he would not have said it. The first time I heard what he said I thought he was talking about the security problems in this country and 9/11. I do think the feds have usurped states rights and the Constitution is broken. How does anyone know what he was talking about. If I were him I would use the strong points of this document to clear up what I meant and turn it on the Democrats but all Lotts advisors must be as dim as he is. I think Lotts main problem is that he is old school, out of date and out of touch.

You damn Northerners are all the same...in your opinion the only racial problems existed south of the Mason-Dixon Line and still do. As a southern Conservative, I must say that the War of Northern Aggression was a criminal act.

The social contract (read John Locke) was a two-way street. You enter into the contract; but, you can also dissolve the contract if the participants view the power of the government is not fulfilling its duties or is violating the contract by infringing upon the rights of the the populous.

Southern states were practicing good federalism when they opted to dissolve the contract and live the Union.

What the North and Abraham Lincoln did was pure and simple: They destoryed a civilization and the resultant centuries old plague of poverty and underdevelopment that exists to this day in certain areas of the South, in particular Appalachia.

The only mistake the South made was that they should have freed the slaves first and deported en masse. Lincoln had the same idea...too bad John Wilkes Booth killed him or he'd deported the slaves back to Central America and Africa. We'd have no racial problems in this country, because they would've been here.

But, keep living the fairy tale that you Northerners have no racial problems...I enjoy it.

"All of us who aren't fools know the answer is that it slipped out. It didn't make it any less authentic. He just forgot to close his mouth while his brain was talking."

I've had several Black friends that said there was no way in hell their daughter would be allowed to marry a white man - over their dead body !

Are they bigots?

No they are just old koots that grew up in a different time just like Lott, Strom etc..

Hang out at any old VFW Post in a racially mixed town and they are proud to tell you this and don't believe you if you said it wouldn't matter to you !

Again, are they bigots?

You know...I could've sworn that one of the requirements of being a leader was having the good sense to not get s**t-faced in front of TVG cameras.

Because the man who ran on that old discredited platform turned 100 years old and Lott said something stupid in an effort to make an old man feel good about his long life. Is that a crime?

Stupidity is not a crime, but the punishment is usually swift, merciless, and beyond appeal.

Trent Lott had PO'd the GOP rank and file long before he opened his damn-fool mouth last week.

And now he just found out what it's like to have gotten rid of your friends over six years.
