If Lott goes he will resign from the Senate. It is next to impossible to fire a man who can retire with full retirement benefits and not have him retire. Idiots are saying to Lott, "You screwed up you are fired. But you have to stay on as a flunky or it will hurt us badly." I have found that people who get fired and demoted don't give a damn how leaving hurts the people who fired him. It is just human nature. It is human nature to say, "You want me out.. I am out of here big time.. .bye bye!! Say high to majority leader Daschle for me.'

It is also human nature not to stick around as just a chairman of a committee and endure all the smirks and jokes the Democrats would lay on you. It would be much better for Trent to quit the senate and go home. There is no way a man could stand the redicule the Democrats and the anger the republican would lay on him. Better to quit and go home.

Most people who get removed are pretty vindictive. They talk about payback time. And do it if they can. Lott is a former Democrat Staffer in the House. He was a Democrat for almost as long as he has been a Republican. He knows that Democrats stand behind their people when they screw up.. Did I mention Bill Clinton? Perhaps Lott would just go home to the Democratic party and take Snowe and Chafee with him. Snowe and Chaffee can't stand Nickles. That would have Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton on TV hailing Trent as a truly changed man who saw the light. Can you imagine the coverage of TRENT in the media and at the Democratic Convention of 2004? TALK about DEMOCRAT HERO CITY from the MEDIA.

Trent could obviously do that. I don't think he will. I think he will just resign his senate seat if they fire him as Leader.

When Lott resigns his senate seat the Democratic Governor from Mississippi will appoint a DEMOCRAT to replace Lott.

That will make the senate 50-50. That will set up the bidding match for Snowe and Chaffee which Daschle will almost certainly win. Snow and Chaffee hate Nickles and the rest of very conservative Republicans. They will tell the new Republican leader to put his party where the sun don't shine. They will very very likely cross the isle

The media will play Bush and Rove as the two dumbest men who ever lived. Not once but twice they will have snatched defeat from the Jaws of Victory. The media will make how stupid Bush is to blow winning two elections in just 2 years. It will take him below 50 percent in job approval ratings.

That will also make it 51 Democrats 48 Republicans and Jeffords in the next Senate.

You're gonna love it. When the

Marjority leader that replaces LOTT IS NAMED DASCHLE.

The look on Jeffords face as he takes his Chairmanship seat will be priceless.

Looking @ the keywords & looking at putting a new face on the GOP is pathetic . Why in the hell would people support a mask when substance is the key to our message ?

As you know, any FReeper can put up keywords.

Nickles is far more than a pretty face...but it would be nice to have someone in the ML postion who didn't turn people off like Lott does.

Boy, Lott really MUST be teetering. You guys are starting to foam at the mouth.

You're now reduced to the MAD gambit...mutually assured destruction.

If Lott does as you say, he will have proved beyond all doubt forever that he possesses not a whit of integrity, loyalty, humility or love for his country...and he will be reviled by Republicans as long as there are Republicans. Hope he's ready to live with that.

Quite a ringing endorsement of your hero.

By the way, placing the blame on Rove and the President ain't gonna work...everyone on the planet knows who is at fault...Trent Lott.

If Lott goes he will resign from the Senate.

Is that from your sources in Trent's office?

A close associate was quoted yesterday as saying he would never do such a thing.

" Whoever it is has to be squeaky-clean "

No one will be squeaky clean enough for the Democrats and the media. If the Senate elected Santa Claus as the ML-the Democrats would brand him an animal abuser for making the reindeer go out at night in the snow. And I am sure they could find some elf who would claim Santa made anti elf statements.

As you know anyone can claim to be a freeper . Anyone who runs for public office is just another pretty face . Dont bullshit yourself & dont market this man as something special to me either .

You know as well as I do party vote matters and all of them are spawned from self interest , and at the same time I see another new guy who is supposed to be something different .

Very well EV . What is so special about him ?

Here's another vote for Santorum--squeaky-clean, conservative, and 100% pro-life.

We may have to give it a year...hopefully Haley Barbour will win down there and if the threat is true, it will no longer matter.

That is the senior U.S. Senator from Texas, Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

Frist is clearly the best choice. He's a compassionate conservative, he works well with the president, he's extremely bright, he engineered the Senate win this past election, he engineered the Gore loss in Tennessee during the last election.

He's telegenic. He's extremely articulate.

Waiting is very bad for the Republican Party, IMO.

We cannot go into January in this shape...Lott needs to humbly hand over the reins to someone new, take his chairmanship, then sit down and shut up.

It's the only honorable course for him, and the only one that will allow a united and unencumbered GOP to go forward as the majority party in 2003.

I'm not a Frist fan.

He's one of the few that I would consider to be even worse than Lott.

The best Republican leader would be Senator Brownblack
of Kansas.
However, the sad truth is that Lott truly reflects
the way the Senate Republican are as a whole.
His unprincipled, cowardly ways reflect the way
most Republican senators are and that is
why they chose him.

Also, I can't help notice the irony in using
Clinton's corruption to defend Lott since Lott
helping save Clinton by undermining the impeachment.
Clinton certainly needed to be removed form
office and should have gone to jail.
