Could this be because of the 'FBI files'?

I dunno. There has been tons (and TONS) of speculation on what Hillary! and Livingstone dug up on Lott and had in their illegally obtained raw data FBI files.

I will throw it open, because there is no way to beat around the bush about this speculation: the rumor is that Lott is a closet homosexual. I don't know if that is true, I am not saying it's true--it is just what the rumor mill says.

Flame away.

About 2 weeks now....and the issue hasn't gone away. And it won't. Lott damaged himself. First, he has been undercutting his conservative base for years; now, they are not there to defend and support him. He's floating on his own--and he won't survive this. The RC will soon (days or hours) make the decision to replace Lott, because the RC sees the need to move on before much more political damage is done.

You know Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz looks almost like Henry Kissenger, kind of the voice reminds me of him too. Of course the guy is a typical liar. Anyway, your thoughts. I almost didn't watch these shows because I knew Trent Lott would be a more important subject than Saddam Hussein.

Is the media going to DEMAND that Byrd be taken OUT of the line of succession to the President?

They dont need to. Byrd loses that position when the new Senate starts up. President Pro Tempore of the Senate is the longest serving senator from the Majority Party. Byrd is lame duck.

I have no idea if it's because of FBI files or not. I don't know if McConnell and Nickles are playing good cop, bad cop or if they truly have a difference of opinion on Lott. That's why I wish they were all on the same page. We need a clear message coming from our Party - soon. Lott tried to get Condi Rice and Colin Powell to come out and defend him...that alone shows what an idiot he is.

I saw Lott making his effusive remarks to Thurmond and interpreted them as stupid, insensitive, typical running-off-at-the-mouth Lott. He is NOT the Mouth of the South, and those remarks, meant most likely to flatter this 100 yo man, were vastly inappropriate, ESPECIALLY coming from Lott's position as ML.

The outcry, remember, started w/Jessie Jackson, who is an expert in using the racist epithet every chance he gets. Lott gave him and dems that chance.

My dissatisfaction w/Lott pre-dates his PRESENT thoughtless remarks. He IS and has been INEFFECTUAL as ML.....strangling the House Managers and sharing the power w/the dems to mention only a few. Lott wants to be liked too much to take the hard stands that he must in order to be the Rep leader in the Senate.

He didn't even appear in person until the President slammed him. Until then, he was giving phoned-in, tepid apologies.

That is the thing. Lott was on vacation in Boca Raton for a week. He says he didn't do a tv interview because there wasn't a satellite feed at a local station, so he just did written statements for the first several days, then Wednesday switched to radio interviews with Hannity and King.

Lott's political sense was so faulty, his hubris was so great, that even by Wednesday, he wasn't willing to drive to say... oh Miami, which is 45 miles from Boca Raton, to get face time on tv and try to kill this story.

Did you just hear that last caller?!?!

If you meant the scumbag muslim calling C-SPAN from Britain (~8:55 AM EST) to advocate the assasination of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and just about anybody else in what he called the Zionist plot to kill the poor persecuted Muslims of the world........................Yes.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Does C-SPAN not screen its callers as to what they are going to say?

Thats just the point..................THEY DID!

The question they asked was "Should the CIA have the licence to kill terrorists ala 007". {paraphrase}

The scumbag Muslim from Britain called in to say, "Yes, the CIA SHOULD reserve the right to kill terrorists whenever it finds them, without any due process of law or clearance by superiors".

He then ADDED "...........and Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz ARE terrorists and pawns of the terrorist Zionists and worldwide conspirators and therefore should be killed.................Blah, blah, blah {3 minute distribe}."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

To:StriperSniper

I hope that call was traceable. LOL.

"I think conservatives WERE truly outraged."

Ah, geeze. Conservatives have been truly outraged with Lott for years. And, IMHO, pretty darn happy to have this opportunity to get rid of him.

I'd like to see a little moral outrage against the borking of man who is not a racist. --[Oops, but then conservatives are the ones doing the borking.]

Nothing else matters....just getting rid of Lott.

IMHO, it's this single-focus, near rabid reaction from conservatives that scares the heck out of more moderate members of the party and the country at large.

I agree with you 100%. Lott is being a very, very selfish man right now. To him it's all about his survival and nothing else. Unfortunately though I'm afraid every other person up there would do the same thing. I'm not sure there is anybody up there who truly puts their country first. We need term limits and we need them badly.

I agree. Many Republicans, especially from the South are outraged at Lott's comments. He has to step down as leader. I do not want him representing me.

It appears many are defending Lott because they do not want the Dems to "to win". They fail to see that it is a "win" for Republicans if Lott is replaced. He is damaged goods and will never recover from his stupidity.

Actually, there was a running joke (I think it was even on late night TV) that they only way Lott could save himself would be hold a press conference and say:

"My name is Trent, I am Gay, and that's OK!"
