See #1040 for my theory regarding McCain and Chafee. As for other potential RINO bolters, I haven't followed them closely enough to properly evaluate their potential to bolt.

There is no way that Orrin Hatch will allow conservative judges to get much more than the time of day from the Judiciary Committee; he and Patrick Leahy have already agreed to equal power.

I meant that Leapin Linc's leap would be good for him and _his_ electoral prospects, not the Pubbies'. Not clear about that, sorry.

Also, Wilson could have quashed prop 187, if he had any vision whatsoever.

If what you say about McCain is true, that is very sad. I would have thought that someone who survived 7 years in NVA captivity would be bigger than that.

This will be resolved.......by having another election. The republicans will vote and then there will be no reason for defections or whining. Whoever gets the most votes, wins.......isn't that how he became majority leader in the first place?

For now it seems to be a lot of noise and confusion signifying NOTHING........pleasing the media and the elected officials who are their cohorts........

I agree with you that Lott has higher percentage odds of being ML after the revote than any other senator. But I think his odds are less than 50%. We should know a lot more as time goes by.

You said it well, I would just add as a sweetener giving him McCain's chairmanship.

I think you are right. Beyond that,I honestly don't think Bubba-2 would nominate any conservative judges anyhow. He doesn't even consider himself to be a conservative or like conservatives.

Bush can try all he wants to get Pickering and company through again, but with the Hatch/Leahy/Lott/Daschle roadblock, the entire fed court system's going to be Clintonized by 2005.

I'd be willing to bet it has already been resolved by the RNC and the White House. Yeah, the Senators will vote, but they are going to vote the way they are told to vote.

"Lott has got to go regardless of the short term consequences to the GOP"

This is also known as cutting off your nose to spite your face.

It is really telling that you don't care if the GOP keeps the majority in the senate, oh, and that you registered on FR TODAY.

MY 2cents WORTH.....

Do I think Lott is racist? No.

Do I think his remarks were not well thought out before they were made? Absolutely.

When a person holds such an honorable position in our government they must be VERY careful about what they say.. Simply because "bad speeches" can't be unspoken... I think it would reflect great credit on himself and the Republican Party if Sen. Lott were to step down from his Leadership position. Not because he is a racist but simply because it brings DOUBT in the mind of SOME Americans and that alone is enough IMHO.... we have plenty of great leaders in the Senate that would not have this baggage. If Republicans allow Sen. Lott to continue to be Majority Leader it WILL interfere with our ability to get our legislative agenda passed.

I ask Sen. Lott to step down for the good of the party, and not to pull a Clinton... Clinton was so intent on making HIMSELF look good that he forgot what PUBLIC selfless-service was all about...

"Do I think his remarks were not well thought out before they were made?"

They where not well thought out because he was drunk when he made them, or at least slightly under the influence. So to add to his sins is the inability to hold liquor.

In Vino Veritas.

Well IMHO I am glad that Lott's place is being threatened. It is sad to say that it has to happen this way. I personally didn't ever thing Lott had the cajones to stand up to the left wing liberal slime. The dems could actually be doing us a favor because we now get someone we like (Nickles, Frist) that isn't beholden to the black caucus like Lott will be if he stays.

That would give the Demorats 51 seats and an illegitimate majority.

New Math or what?
