Hullo! I am concerned about the winds tonight... hoping a tree doesn't fall on me. The property next to mine was recently logged, leaving my trees exposed to wind where they used to be protected. A tree about 8 inches in diameter snapped last night behind my house. I can tell now that it was rotting inside... but I can't tell if any of the others are sick too unless they snap! ;~D

The ground is so saturated right now from all the rain, I worry about the hemlocks... they don't have a whole lot of root holding them to the ground. Eeeek. I will wear a helmet to bed.

Boy, isn't that the killer -- when we get so much rain the ground softens up (and our ground is kind of soft here to begin with) -- and then the wind kicks up and whoosh, over go the trees.

Hemlocks are a problem, but it's the widowmakers that scare me the most, for the first couple of years after they've died, you cant tell. I guess they all can't be like cedars.
