Here is the email I just sent to Martha Irvine, the AP reporter who authored the story:

In your story about the girls who were voted "Cutest couple" by Illinois high school seniors, you wrote the following:

*******************
"Upset, some parents and community members have called to complain and written letters to the editor of local newspapers. But others are supportive - a sign, students say, that times are changing."
*******************

The remainder of the story -- 531 words out of total of 734 -- is about the students and others who are supportive.

The "parents and community members" who objected -- apparently, some who did so on the record in newspapers -- are not quoted. But the supportive superintendent, four supportive students, and a supportive student nurse were quoted.

Was this a news story or an editorial? Can you explain why it is so biased in favor of those who approve of the situation as it stands? Aren't readers entitled to all the facts, and not just the facts you want them to hear?

I eagerly await your response.
