JAIPUR: Praveen Togadia, general secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, on Sunday described the BJP's victory in Gujarat as a vote not only against the Congress but also against the pseudo-secularist ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru.

Togadia said the people of Gandhi's state rejected the Congress' policy of secularism. He was confident that the results will have a far-reaching effect on the country's polity and people in other states will take a fresh look at the theory of secularism.

Describing Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as Abhimanyu, he said: "Abhimanyu might have lost his battle and life against the Kauravas, but today's "Abhimanyu" (Narendra Modi) turned the tables on the Kauravas by leading the BJP to a landslide victory on this auspicious day (Sunday) of Gita Jayanti. The real Mahabharata will begin during the next Lok Sabha polls and then an "Arjun" or a "Krishna" would lead the BJP to victory."

He said the victory was a fitting answer to all those who wanted the people to forget the Godhra incident, which sparked off communal frenzy in Gujarat.

Recalling the days after the Godhra incident, Togadia said the Opposition, which protested in Parliament over petty issues, did not bother to raise a voice against those responsible for the massacre.

On the BJP's victory in the three assembly seats in Rajasthan, Togadia said it was just the lull before the storm.

"Terrorism has reached such a height that it was time for Hindus to join hands."
