If they were selling "Lott, more dumbass by volume," then you are right.

Why do you suppose that under the Leadership of Trent Lott, the GOP never forcefully attacked Senator "Sheets" Byrd, or Clinton mentor Fulbright? It's not just the press that's given the party of Jim Crow a pass.

The GOP never could and never would mount an offensive against Democrat racism and double-standards so long as Trent Lott was anything more than just one of our Southern Senators.

The Left has misplayed this in the long run. We will be stronger as a party with Lott on the back bench.

Sounds like you went out and bought yourself a 12-pack of Racism after seeing all the free advertising, dirtboy.

Sounds like you're incapable of reading clear language, a.a.s. - like I said, I have paid little to no attention to what the left is saying here. As soon as I heard what Lott had said, I groaned and thought to myself, "What an idiot".

Quit trying so hard to make your point - and quit associating FR folks with whom you disagree with racism, jerk...

Great observation.

"As soon as I heard what Lott had said, I groaned and thought to myself, "What an idiot"."

You know, when I heard they were going to celebrate Strom's birthday, I wondered then how they were going to handle this issue of his past segregationist views.

Then Lott opened his mouth. Like you: "As soon as I heard what Lott had said, I groaned and thought to myself, "What an idiot"."

Wanna bet? We throw our own to the wolves here. Chances are Lott is forced out by end of December, and resigns from the Senate altogether. Which means a 50-50 Senate and with our weak President and GOP, Daschle will soon again hold the reins to Congress.

I was wondering why the Dems are beating this dead horse as an issue. Of course because the media is giving it some traction. It helps sooothe their wounds from their election losses.
Was also wondering why Gore dropped out of the race earlier than his January deadline. Except for a war in Iraq, the Lott/Republicans are racists news frenzy became the best cover for him to do it. Gore could fade out sight easier as the media is just reporting his stepping out, but not harping on it. He's able to slide in under the Lott story, the one the media really wants. If he opted out during the cover of the Christmas news vacuum, he would have looked too political and taken some heat. If he waited till the Iraq war to drop out, he would look like a coward.

This tempest in a teapot about Trent Lott is, and it is a multi-million dollar gift from the left-wing media that will keep on giving to the Left.

Welcome to the world, Sleeping Beauty. Freepers have been complaining about this forever, remember the discussions of Campaign Finance Reform?, and so has Rush and many conservative commentators. Are you aware of Truth in Media and its various cousins? There have been thousands of words of FR about this very subject.

Yet, it not only has very little impact on freepers it is probably the most often used jumping off point for posted articles. Just because the bulb just went off above your head doesn't make it news, it just illustrates how unaware you have been.

A thousand worse things have been said somewhere by some politicians since Lott's inconsequential remarks.

Such as...

Lott will not resign from the Senate. Name a single Republican Senator that has asked him to resign his seat.

Sounds like you're incapable of reading clear language, a.a.s. - like I said, I have paid little to no attention to what the left is saying here.

If you've "paid little or no attention to what the left is saying", why would you be concerned with a report from the predominantly left media on a Trent Lott quote? Because you knew what the Left was going to do with the trivial remark - serve it up to the entire country on a silver platter, unlike Byrd's comments.

You have a remarkably slim grasp on "clear language" for a computer geek, dirtboy:

quit associating FR folks with whom you disagree with racism, jerk...

I didn't try to associate you with racism, I correctly referred back to my original premise ["Katie Couric is dancing around topless with an ice-cold can of Racism, and we can't wait to drink it"], as any good debater should.

And the "jerk" ad-hominen has no place here if you're after a debate - or are you just on this thread to sling insults?

In case you haven't noticed, a tremendous number of CONSERVATIVE commentators are also quite concerned, and they AND I don't care what the leftists are saying - Lott's comments are problematic to US, in their own rights.

Because you knew what the Left was going to do with the trivial remark - serve it up to the entire country on a silver platter, unlike Byrd's comments.

No, I just plain think it makes Lott look like an idiot and that damages the GOP.

You have a remarkably slim grasp on "clear language" for a computer geek, dirtboy:

I do just fine. You, however, have a need to downplay the criticism against Lott coming from the right by trying to say we are overly worried about what the left thinks or that we are being swayed by them. That is wrong.

I didn't try to associate you with racism, I correctly referred back to my original premise ["Katie Couric is dancing around topless with an ice-cold can of Racism, and we can't wait to drink it"], as any good debater should. You were the one who did not make it clear what you meant with the buying racism remark. Don't lecture me, clean up your own act first. I'm getting tired of the efforts to downplay this matter. Lott was boneheaded for making this comment, and it is significant. You think otherwise, fine, that's your opinion, but quit trying to second-guess where mine is coming from. That's asinine...

Point me to an article on the Trent Lott controversy that discusses how many advertising dollars this is worth to the Left, and I'll concede your point. Otherwise, it needs to be pointed out that the entire "controversy" is somewhat similar to a campaign for New Coke, left-wing style.

Just because the bulb just went off above your head doesn't make it news, it just illustrates how unaware you have been.

I've been dealing with media bias issues here on FR since before the deposits on Monica's dress gave birth to your screen-name here. I go my own way, because organizing something here can be like trying to herd cats.

Nice advertising plug for Truth In Media, by the way. :-)

"An ice-cold can of Racism" was my original quote from the article. "...bought yourself a 12-pack of Racism after seeing all the free advertising" was my follow-up quote. Same soda-pop reference, same case, same italics.

I apologize for you not reading the article and my responses thoroughly before you shot from the hip. ;-)

Sorry, but I didn't buy your vanity or buy your attempts to downplay your racist statements in the subsequent replies. You can be condescending to your opponents all you want by implying that we are in the thrall of Katie Couric, but dont' whine when we bite back. You started the nasty tone here, don't complain when it gets nastier...

The Left is renting free space in your head with crap like this, and they're not going to quit anytime soon

They're not messin' with MY head but you're right; they're getting away with political murder. Where was the outrage when Sen. Byrd used the "N" word on national television?! Republicans are TOO NICE!!!!!!

Oh, my - dirtboy's pulling a page right out of the Big Leftist Handbook. Mere discussion of race leads him to accuse me of "racist statements".

Stay on the porch, dirtboy.

You fell for that one. I left it deliberately vague, like you did with your statement:

Sounds like you went out and bought yourself a 12-pack of Racism after seeing all the free advertising, dirtboy.

And you jumped all over it. Thanks for proving my point, and have a nice day.

He used the word white nigger basically to underscore there are bad whites and blacks and there are good ones.

He may be racist still in his heart, that comment, was not used in a derogatory fashion against blacks.
