What about these illnesses?

Okay fellow Freepers, don't throw rocks and don't send me any tinfoil beanies. Here's a fair observation and I'm wondering if any of you are making the same observations as I have regarding the strange outbreaks of illnesses across the U.S.

It really started to hit me as odd, with West Nile, the cruise ship illness outbreaks, the unexplained deaths of students near Hershey, Pennsylvania, the outbreaks now of antibiotic resistant Strep in Texas and the Marine Corps tragedy in San Diego where one marine has passed away and over 100 Marines have been hospitalized with a potentially life-threatening form of streptococcus infections.

Now GW is ordering the implementation of inoculations for smallpox in anticipation of a grave possibility of outbreak.

Okay, to the point, are we already being hit with germ warfare, imagine the Marine Corp in San Diego considering a 'stand down' a move that would temporarily cease all training at the San Diego base.

Seems to me, we could get our military knocked out and off it's feet before a shot is fired............

Okay, folks, tinfoil time, do ya think that maybe someones not tellin' us the whole story...hmmmm??

Food for thought..Have a Safe and wonderful Christmas!!

Marine dies..

100 Marines hospitalized..

Texas Outbreaks..

More Than 200 Passengers Ill on Another Cruise Ship.

something's up; some may be mere coincidence, time of year, flu season, we always have serial killers, murderers (remember Son of Sam, the Nightstalker, the Zodiac Killer, etc.)....but there's too much strange illnesses, IMO, to all be "mere coincidences." Worth keeping our eyes open.

You forgot to mention all the invasive species that have been showing up in ecologically sensitive areas.

Remember the Baghwan followers who contaminated a salad bar as a practice run for what would happen on election day? The town and the public health officials never suspected anything.

When the Japanese used biological warfare, the Chinese did not even know it had happened.

Don't you realize we can't deal with life and death situations right now? Lott made a comment last week that Jackson said scared some black people. /sarcasm

Not only germ warfare but oil tankers sinking, million dollar luxury freight going down. I'd say we're being skillfully hit in major areas. That's just my tinfoil thinking.

It's clear that there is much publicity about these incidents. What I would like to see is the stats for the last, say 5 years. THEN we could determine if this is a new and disturbing trend.

This was a topic on WLS radio not too long ago. They had many military and ex-military people calling up and confirming that these kind of illnesses are pretty frequent...especially on ships and in the barracks. The navy guys said it was it was always the marines who would bring it in and get everyone else sick.

I think it's just more noticeable now because it's being reported.

Navy and Marine Corp facilities are all practically in downtown San Diego. So, it seems to me that if anything was in the air, it would be in the local populace also.

No offense, but I can't imagine that....medical technolgy grows by leaps and bounds every few years. But this year, the CDC is saying, as a possible explanation for all the cruise ship illnesses this year (which, BTW, has tripled from last year), are these possible reasons:

1. they weren't looking at the symptoms in the past and calling them flu symptoms (i.e., overlooking it); or Yeah, right, just what everyone wants to do when they have a stomach flu, be on a ship that goes up and down on the waves. I think the CDC is a joke.

for some reason, "2" didn't post. So here's what I meant to post:

2. the CDC is suggesting that selfish people are knowingly boarding cruise ships while sick with the flu (to which I said, "yeah, right," that's exactly what someone with the stomach flu wants to do, be on a ship where the waves rock them back and forth....

True, but the Norwalk Virus is spread through food, in addition to other ways....and especially, "prepared food" is better way of transmission I read on a website I found.

It could be 'shark attack' syndrome, where the press creates a phenomenon even though the statistics surrounding that phenomenon have not changed.

Or it could be evil scientists that are smarter than our CDC, Military, and Intelligence services combined and have spiked a variety of pathogens in seemingly unrelated places (cruise ships, marine barracks, etc.) in a strategic effort to weaken our responses to thier ultimate goals.

There probably is nothing unusual about these events except as you stated they are being reported and focused on.

If next summer all cases of people who died or were hospitalized by bee stings were given the same coverage you would think the bees had gone on a killing rampage.

Like the shark attack stories which the press focused on in the last few years.

Before; stuff like shark atacks and cruise ship sickneses would be glossed over because they were bad for tourism. Soldiers getting sick and dying are bad for recruitment. Now you can't bury anything because of the Internet and Cable TV.and so many cameras around.- Tom

Outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness on cruise ships tripled in 2002, according to a new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
