Men lusting for less curves
The Age ^ | 12/20/2002

Men's taste in women has changed dramatically over the past half-century, shifting away from girls with curves and big breasts towards the androgynous and the skinny.

The assertion comes from two psychoanalysts who pored over every Playboy from December 1953 and calculated the body mass index of every centrefold. Over 577 issues, the models became taller and their waist increased, while their hips became narrower and their bust became smaller. If Playboy is any guide, the needle on the male sexual compass has switched from Marilyn Monroe to Eva Herzigova, the scientists say.

The research, conducted by Martin Voracek of the University of Vienna Medical School and Maryanne Fisher of York University, Toronto, is published in tomorrow's British Medical Journal.

Like an Austrian pencil-neck and a Canadian feminist broad, publishing in a British medical journal, would have any clue what actual men find attractive.

I don't know if you have ever seen it, but there is video footage of the Golden Globe Awards, from the sixties. The presenters were Mickey Rooney and Jayne Mansfield. It was a classic scene! Jayne's walk from her table to the podium was priceless.

,,, heroin. Bingo! They look chronically unhealthy. Women in their late 30's thru early 50's who take care of themselves and dress tastefully are knockouts. That's the bracket of women who've got it, in my opinion.

Gag! Did you HAVE to???? Retch!

Hmm. Seems like their 'study' is sorta flawed. Just because Playboy put them in the mag, doesn't necessarily mean that they're what men wanted.

Yah, curves and breasts for me pls!

Well I wish you guys would make up your minds already. I'd like to know if I could eat another cookie!

Depends, is it a Jenny Craig cookie? Is it made by elves? Is it full of chocolate chunks?

And more importantly, are you willing to share your cookies?

That's Brigette Bardot.

I guessed right! She was a babe before she went off on her animal-rights crusade.

I saw a photograph of Bacall with Bogie and several other stars at a beach when she must have been 19 or 20. She was transfixing. I thought she was attractive with John Wayne in The Shootist. She still had it. When Jane Russel was young she was somewhat thin. I remember her in the Outlaw. Fully clothed she was just raw sexuality. Raw. Raw. Raw. I got a DVD of Jean Simmons in Elmer Gantry the other night. She wasn't built like a ceramic defecatorium, but she was a gorgeous attractive woman.

An interesting disconnect here...think about it.

In modern erotica (okay, PORN) most of the starlets (not that ANY FReeper men would EVER watch any such movies or videos...) are, in fact, quite curvy and voluptuous, even to the point of surgically enhancing those features. Remember, these women, more than perhaps any other, earn a living by being the objects of male sexual fantasies and desires. They would NOT seek to look like something men would find unnatractive.

Contrast this with the alleged "supermodels". Most fashion models are taller, thinner, and bonier than most porn actresses. Many do, in fact, resemble heroin addicts. A simple image search on Google revealed these contrasts, in graphic detail.

Point is, (with Playboy being the notable exception), modern men DO prefer the voluptuous look, at least if their preference in sexually stimulating imagery is any guide. Why MODELS, on the other hand, are skewed towards the "gaunt, waif" look probably DOES have more to do with the preference of the clothing designers they work for than previously thought.

BTW, a quick look at a few recent copies of Playboy (in the interest of science, of course) reveals that whilst their models have slimmed down some, few would ever be seen on a high-fashion runway even now.

Simply put, a woman with some curves looks HEALTHY and FERTILE, qualities which have for the breadth of human history have been sexual triggers for men. The supermodels, by contrast, look SICK and WEAK, historical repulsors for mate-seeking males.

Just the two bits worth from a normal, healthy American man.

Where the HE** are they getting THIS information?

I'm with you brother. Curves all the way.

As Tony Curtis said of Marilyn in Some Like It Hot, "like jell-o on springs."

Bah! says I to skinny chicks!
