Well...Frist is Bushes guy in one sense but he is more conservative than Lott on spending...so I'll take him.

Word on the street is that none of the senators like Nickles, and absent any other challenger Lott would have defeated Nickles. But other challengers stepped up to the plate and Lott saw the writing on the wall.
Now, what information does Lott have on those who worked against him and how soon will he leak it?

Bush has nothing to do with it (More FReeper naivete: One of the few Constitutional constructs everyone has no problem supporting is separation of powers. The Senators in particular are very jealous of the fact that they see the Legislative branch as coequal to the Executive).
This is about Lott seeing his OWN support ebbing away. It's an internal, Senate Republican phenomenon only.
