Yes, it does seem the Dems get away with their shenanigans, but the Pubs don't. But do they really "get away with it"? They've lost all branches of power, they lose every time when Americans are polled on the morals/values issues, and they have no ideas left except to throw stones.

The hard truth is Lott, Gingrich, Livingston did do things that hurt themselves and their party, regardless of the double standard. Character matters - at least to the GOP faithful. We continually upgrade the quality of our leaders, while the libs trot out the same tired old reprobates.

Now, Thurmond must step down from his bingo committee chairmanship at his nursing home.

<< This is another in the long string of black eyes for the Dems and the Media, who overplayed their hand and got exactly what they asked for. Their Issue Box has just been emptied.

And guess who once again was misunderestimated? Mr. Strategery. >>

Funny, that .....

This one's real simple, babes. Newtie and Livingston got theirs under X-42(i). Both were probably deserved. Lott got his now - and deservedly so. And look at how it all turned out - we now have the Senate 51-48-1 and will have a real leader for a change. Plus, we've eliminated 3 lightning rods. You're looking at it tactically, short-term, without realizing that over the LONG term, the Dems and the Media are unwittingly HELPING us.

If the Dems and the Media want to keep it up and keep shooting themselves in the foot, I say LET 'EM.

BTW, those FBI files are getting rather stale. I'd imagine that just about anything in them that's useful has been expended by now.

"3) The Dems look bloodthirsty and bad to the voters for the next election."

The Dems AND the Media. They were both SO desperate after none of their efforts had stuck to Bush that, like a starving man suddenly finding himself at a feast, they resorted to over-gluttony - which had a 180-degree opposite effect from the one they were hoping for.

Why do you suppose Nickles didn't run?

He's decided that he'd rather be Chairman of the budget committee.

This is a GREAT move for the party. I'm sure Mississippi is a fine state, but it's past is just bad symbolism for the big tent strategy of trying to expand voters. Even those who thought Lott should have remained have to admit that he wasn't the strongest leader available.

Like I have been saying to people: People like President Lincon, but Lincon suspended Habeus Corpus (police state, anyone?) So if you like Lincon, does that you also like the fact he suspended American rights? Every one has a few bones in the closet . . . Every liberal loves FDR, but FDR tried to stack the supreme court to ram through his policies. If a Pubby did that, they'd be toast.

I'd just like to see Santorum win, just to teach some people that they cannot run the Senate from outside.

She is probably dem precinct captain.

Nursing homes, chock full of alzheimer patients, are a target rich voting block for the dems.

Also, I'm frankly glad to see Lott go, but am not thrilled to see him go in this manner, which will only serve to embolden the race-baiting Democrats

100% ditto of my feelings.

I think Lott and other Republicans should have fought back at the very beginning, since the racism charge against Lott was totally bogus. This has been another Political Correctness witch hunt, which should have been nipped in the bud.

However, once Lott began pandering and caving in to the demands of the far left, he lost my support. Once he threw in the towel, it became preferable to remove him from his leadership position.

But we need to start fighting back when hit with these charges in the future. Otherwise, we'll reach a point where we can't even say nice things about Abraham Lincoln or James Madison.

Good points.

I would respond this way though:

Agreed, they have "lost" all branches of power, but to whom?

A Republican today, ideologically speaking, is a Humphrey Democrat of the 60's. Although the power has shifted from the Democrats to the Republicans, the ideological battleground has also continuosly shifted to the left.

I do not want to bash Bush, but I can respectfully (I hope) disagree with him on several points:

a) Social security to illegal aliens?
b) Open door border policy.
c) Failure to indict the Clintons for numerous issues (NY Orhodox Jews and Hillary, Hillary again on bribery (guy in Brazil), failure to indict Torricelli.
d) Failure to respond (adequately) to voter fraud in Florida.

And look at Trent Lott, (pre foot-n-mouth):

He gave into Daschel on many issues: Committee make-up, Comittee chairs, won't take over till January.

And let's not forget what the dems/liberal agenda has done to our schools. There are more examples, but you get the point, I am sure. Specifically:

The dems are losing position, but shifting the battle in their favor.

Every liberal loves FDR, but FDR tried to stack the supreme court to ram through his policies.

That was nothing compared to the incarcaration of Americans of japanese descent. Then the FDR administration allowed their land/homes to be taken from them for failure to pay taxes. Not only did we kick em, we stomped on them when they were down.

FDR gets a memorial, and the Japanese-Americans got the shaft w/o lubrication.
