LEWISTON, Maine (AP) General Assistance records provide evidence that the migration of Somalis from other parts of the country has reached a plateau in the state's second-largest city.

Sixteen families, 13 of which are Somali, have moved to Lewiston and registered to receive General Assistance since Aug. 31. The total includes 27 individuals. Before that, the city was receiving between 40 and 60 people a month, said Assistant City Administrator Phil Nadeau.

Representatives Baldacci and Allen called for $100,000 in funding to enable Catholic Charities of Maine to provide needed services to Somali immigrants in Lewiston and other communities. Catholic Charities provides outreach and assistance to refugees and immigrants.

Maine has a hard time finding work and feeding their own. Yet Baldacci and Allen want an INFLUX of immigrants! What's up with this!

Certainly makes one wonder, doesn't it! Our future Guvnor Baldacci working with the Catholic Church started all of this. Now, they call Mainers "Hate Groups" because we are protesting. Maine can't take care of it's OWN homeless, but bring in an influx of people who can barely speak English, and set them up in style. I'm sick of it.

I'm not against helping people, but how about starting with our own, first!

After 1,000 Somalis moved to the city within an 18-month period, Raymond wrote a letter on Oct. 1 asking Somali residents to discourage friends and family members from relocating to the city. "This misunderstanding has gotten totally out of hand. In an effort to boost the local restaurant industry, I stated that we need more tamales. Perhaps if you people had made a better effort at learning to speak English, this whole mess could have been avoided."

It will be interesting to see what happens when they don't assimilate, but form their own little society. How will Lewiston feel about honor killings and the like? But then, all cultures are equally valid, right?

This seems to be a pattern. We go into a police action somewhere in the world to save some group of people and soon all of the people we went to save move to this country.

Maine is in big time debt, yet the lawmakers and the Church are bringing in immigrants. Where DO they think the money is coming from? The lawmakers already bled the Mainers dry!

If we are going to survive as a nation in the long term, it is critical that we take care of ourselves and our own first and foremost.

How are we to do this, when our Senators and future Governor is the one bringing them in? They take our dollars to give good lives to immigrants. I read where only 40 Somali's in Lewiston, out of 240, had jobs.

and see that the more Muslim neighbors, the merrier?

OOPS, I guess they may have watched the counter-balancing (and truthful)
PBS Frontline special "Muslims" that was re-broadcast the next (Thursday) night.
After seeing that...no sane person (even some Muslims) would want Muslims as neighbors.
