What's the big attraction for them in Maine? Certainly not the tropical climate.

Follow the money.
(generous social services, plus a politically-correct civic attitude, such as the one
in The People's Republic of Boulder, Colorado that had their mayor planning to
"import" more poor people to "improve" the diversity of the affluent university town)

Maine, I'm not so worried about. If we could get all the Muslims in the USA to migrate
there...it would be worth losing two (nominally) Republican Senators to just
give the place away to Canada...and militarily take British Columbia and Alberta in exchange.

I can't imagine a worse place than Maine for people who are used to a hot desert climate. Maybe immigration is tapering off because they're beginning to realize what they are getting into.

The article implies that they are Muslims, but I suspect that is media ignorance. Most of the refugees are probably Christians.

No, actually the Somalis here are Muslim--devout Muslims. We already have ourselves a mosque and a halal meat market, leaving most of us wondering what the hell is going on here. People can call me what they want, but I just feel uncomfortable sharing my community with Muslims.
