QUESTION: Can someone please explain to me why a young woman would choose abortion over carrying the child to term and putting it up for adoption?
Is is the discomfort/pain of pregnancy and childbirth? The altered body?
Most of the time it is purely for selfish reasons. I have heard over and over the same argument of "but I just couldn't have a baby inside of me for 9 months and then just give it up. That would hurt me too much".
One of the big pro-family groups (I forget if it was FRC or NRTL) did a survey on this. Women in crisis pregancies want the crisis to be over: ie, to make a decision. The problem with adoption is, to women in a crisis pregnancy situation it feels like adoption just extends the crisis, because their baby will be "out there" and they will always wonder about the child. In contrast, abortion or deciding to keep a child feels very final. Many women in the survey said they would rather abort than put a child up for adoption, as they felt guilty for abandoning the child and worried the child might be abused. (Yes, I know it's dumb to think of killing a baby as the caring option, but this is what the survey found.)
The sad thing is it shows a lack of understanding of modern adoption options (such as open adoption) and has created an almost total inability for an infertile couple of moderate means to adopt (foreign adoptions and private adoptions are both very, very expensive.) Not to mention all the data showing a stable two parent home is far and away the best environment physically, emotionally, intellectually and economically for a child. Right now, only about 2 percent of women in a crisis pregnancy situation opt to put the baby up for adoption. The rest either abort or raise the child, can't remember the exact number but it was pretty much half and half.

Ya think? Hahah....
I heard of things that happen or are triggered when some woman have babies. One girl I know was bedridden for the last 3 months and her eyes ended up bulging out of her head ...and never went back in. It was so hard to look at her....she was so depressed. SHe avoided everyone....very sad. I know of another girl...who actually got leukemia....which I think was triggered by her pregnancy.(MY opinion). I also heard of diabetes being triggered by getting pregnant. I'll bet alot of things are triggered.... not to mention the puffiness and discomfort and pain I hear about and umcomfortableness I see. I worked with a girl about 4 years ago who had her first...they were going to have 3...after she had the first, she said she's done. She was miserable...couldn'walk...and she had a hard labor. I'm sure the majority of the woman have no problems...but just like some vaccines...there is a risk.
Anyway...those should be excellent birth control reasons if you ask me. :)
Cuz her priorities are royally screwed up.
